About three things I was absolutely positive:
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him–and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be–that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife -- between desire and danger.

Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

I had heard about this book from one of my sister's friends and I never thought anything of it. Then two of my closest friends started RAVING about this book so I decided to look it up. I read the first chapter online and was hooked. I quickly bought the first one and I could not put it down. You really grow to love and care for Bella, Edward, and the whole Cullen family. They each have their own personalities which you also grow to love. Twilight is exactly my type of heroine!

At first, I wasn't too sure about reading Twilight. I thought to myself as I held the book in my hand, "there's no way i'm reading this." I just figured that it was going to be about another lame vampire story with coffins by day and garlic being the end of them. By the time I read the book, I learned that the description I first thought about the book was the total opposite. What really intrigued me the most about the book was when I flipped the book to a random page where Edward is right about to kiss Bella (for those who haven't read the book, those are the two main characters) and Bella's describing Edwards beauty to the extreme all the way to the sweetness of his breath. It became so overwhelming to her how this beautiful creature was just about to kiss "her," so she almost faints! Flipping through pages is something I always do before reading a book just so I know I'm not going to be wasting my time.. So once I read that, I just had to read the book and because of all the great feedback I heard about the book. The day I actually started reading the book, I was instantly hooked! Even though I could have kept reading, I had to stop because of life's sometimes unpleasant committed obligations. During breaks at school or on my lunch at work I would read, any spare time that I had I would read. The intensity of the book, the description of Edwards's beauty, the insane stories and drama was just mind blowing. The book is such a thriller and it always, always, always left me anticipating, nervous thinking about what was going to happen next! The night I finished the book was the night I had just finished reading three chapters and the book was right at its climax. I honestly did try to put the book down to get some sleep, but there was absolutely no way I could do so. I had to keep reading I just had to! If you're not much of a reader, or are afraid of the thickness of books typically how I am, then have no fear! Twilight is the most amazing book I've ever read. I hope that Stephenie Meyer publishes six more novels. I never want this love story to end! Read this book, trust me, you will not be disappointed. I can almost bet my life on that!

I started this novel on Friday and didn't put it down until it was over...yeah I lost some serious sleep over it! Meyer does an exceptional job drawing her readers into the world of her characters. I felt like I knew each and every one of them by the time I was finished with Twilight...and let me tell you I was really sad when it was over!!! I can definitly see a sequel in the making...please give us a sequel!!!!!

Great series.

Wow. That had to be the best book I've read in a long time. The fact that fiction could be so subtly involved in a story - I didn't even know I was reading a fantasy novel until about halfway through. The characters were well written and the book invited me to become Bella through the love and pain that she endured throughout the book.

This is a caution to everyone that have obligations (ie children to care for, a house to clean) this book will prevent you from wanting to do anything but read!! This book is excelent. I could't put it down. The characters a wonderful. The way that Stephanie Meyer describes the closeness of Bella and Edward makes you need to take a break! It's very age appropriate for young adult. However, I'm 28 with a husband, 2 kids and now reading New Moon. You need to this book!!!

This book caught me from the beginning...The character of Bella was very easy to imagine and her flaws made her seem more realistic and made it easier for a lot of people to be able to identify with her. The mystery surrounding Edward Cullen and his family pulls the reader in, making them want to find out more. I have guy friends that love the books too, so it's not just for girls, or even just teenage girls! It really is an amazing book!

I read many books, I can't copmprehend the effect Twilight has on me. I've read the book three times so far, it's like a magnet calling me to read it over and over without ever getting dull, and the pain the story leaves in my heart, I don't understand it, maybe as humans we crave to read about impossible or forbidden love stories; Ah..and the movie..I've also watched few times and going again to see it this weekend "hehe".
Stephenie Meyer..your book is is
really Indescribable, thank you for writing it.

This was the most amazing book i've ever read to say the least. Edward and Bella leave you wanting more and more and the chemistry and romance and excitement between them totally get you hooked. Throughout reading this, there was so much thrill, love, and very intense situations that'll leave you smiling or even fuming with anger. Edward is so complex and the way Ms Meyer describes him leaves you wishing you knew someone like Edward and constinetly wanting to read more to see what he does next. The end will defintetly shock you and you'll never see it coming. I love this book and I cannot wait to read the next three. Also, once you've read Twilight you have to go see the movie because it was pretty much as great as the book. TWILIGHT IS A MUST READ!!!!!!!!!

Everyone who could read was talking about this book. Generally, I wait until the hype is over before I read a book but since the movie was coming out - well, that changed everything. I hate watching movies then reading books. I must say, I was completely dissappointed. The hype added immenseley to my dissappointment as well so that didn't help matters. The book was predictable but honestly, so are three out of four. So that wasn't my issue. My issue was just how...mediocre...the book was. The storyline was ok the series flowed nicely but it was badly written. I know that almost everyone who is reading this wants to shoot me so I want to ask you this: If you had that very idea, couldn't you have written it? That's not to insult anyone's intelligence but a book with so much hype HAS to be AMAZING, not just good. The characters were interesting, I wanted to shoot Bella (she really got on my nerves but I think that was the general idea) and I saw Edward as an overrated, obssessive creep. The book was ok but was it worht the hype and drama?

On the first day of school she becomes an easy disraction to a vampire Edward and he becomes a easy distraction to her also. I read this book not a month or two ago and it was horrendous. Bella is whiny and extremely predictable, and Edward is nothing but a bloodthirsty fairy. Jacob was just something to get everyone watching the movies. I cannot go near a movie theater showing the latest Twilight movie without someone screaming "Oh my God Jacob/Edward is soooooo hot" or a huge cutout of Taylor Lautner or Robert Pattinson(Can't remember his name, and I'm glad I can't) shirtless in my way. The other characters are completely used and have no real purpose but to cause another ridiculously melodramatic plot in the story. Bella is easily predictable- average, clumsy girl falls in love with sexy hunk Edward. She always goes along with Edward's plans even though half the time they go horribly wrong and somebody ends up hurt. She doesn't display any sign of being normal, not sniffly or upset about one stupid over exaggerated thing. She expresses more emotion than needed. She cannot tell left from right and cannot find her place until she finds the "perfect" Edward. If he was perfect, he wouldn't dare bother with Bella and keep the greatest distance possible away from her. Edward is nothing more than a sparkling fairy. Plus, they took out the sparkling in the movies to save money in New Moon and Eclipse. He runs around shirtless everywhere, showing off his abilities- running around obstacles, always "being there" for Bella. It's getting a little annoying. He always uses random excuses. "But I have to go feed this weekend..." Grrrrrr. The only reason he likes Bella is because she smells good. She's not exactly that "girl" you'd always want, but she smells good. LAMEST WAY TO LIKE A GIRL EVER! I also read New Moon (skipped Eclipse because I watch the movie at a party) and Breaking Dawn. The best book out of them all was the last. I don't know if it was either the fact it finally ended or the Twilight fans were taking control of me. This is MY opinion. Please do not give me an "unhelpful review" because I don't like Twilight. If you do, then tht shows you are over obsessive with the topic and if you can't except that fact, well... that's that. Thanx for understanding my point of view!

Listen, it's okay to like Twilight. There is nothing wrong with liking Twilight. But the fact of the matter is, they aren't the greatest books ever written. Not even close. You know why? Because there are so many illogical plot points and the characters are basically all the same people, they have no flaws at all or have flaws that are not really flaws (Bella is really pretty, but OMG, is she cluuuuumsy -- that's not a flaw.) Bella is a Mary Sue. Edward is abusive (and this NEEDS to be addressed, seriously.) The other characters are disposable. The last book, when paraphrased, sounds ridiculous (I thought my friends were joking when they talked about it at first, but it turns out, they were for real.) Stephanie Meyer has taken elements from almost every other vampire book and series and converged them into one vampire that "sparkles" (ew) and somehow still contains sperm to impregnate somebody. Along with this hodgepodge of vampiric traits, Meyer has included severe Mormon undertones. One of my friends is a former Mormon and was extremely disturbed by the deep Mormon undertones of the books, including the odd abstinence that Edward forces on Bella and their wedding in particular. Besides this, Bella is a self insert of what Meyer wanted to be. The plot, the characters, and the premise are illogical and poorly written. That makes them not the greatest books ever written. Does it mean you shouldn't like them? Not necessarily. In fact, regardless of how logical the books are or realistic or well written, everyone deserves the right to like something and fall in love with it. But Meyer won't win any awards soon and neither will her plot or character construction. Edward is unnecessarily hurtful to Bella throughout the novel; abuse is not just physical, it is emotional, mental, and sexual. He forces Bella to hide her sexuality; he makes promises and breaks them; he controls her and makes her think that he is the only thing she needs to survive. That's not a love story. That's a story of abuse, it just is not acknowledged. Does that make them bad books? Yes and no. Does it mean you shouldn't like it? Certainly, you are allowed to like the book. But should you be able to acknowledge that it is somewhat illogical, confusing, and could be concerning to others? Yes, you should at least try. Twilight is a series that is incredibly dividing. If you like it, like it; but don't scream and yell to defend it. When others say things about it, ask them why and at least try to understand. It doesn't matter if everyone likes Twilight or not. It's just a book and it's entertaining to a point. It reads quickly. It's great for airports. It's great for teenagers when put in context. Read it if you want, but just know, if you fall in love with it, just take the time and have the maturity to be able to accept that others have not. The same also goes for disliking it. It's just a book, remember, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I may dislike the book, but I recognize it for what it is: a teen series, fluffy and light and airy.

It really should be called "An idiot girl's guide to be a doormat: how to be the most uninteresting girl in the universe & change yourself to enjoy more psychological abuse from a boy who sparkles"

I tried to read this book. I really TRIED. But about half way through i couldnt take it anymore. The writing is dull and undescriptive. It is about a gloomy boring teen girl who meetes a vampire. She just talks on and ON about how PERFECT and GORGEOUS he is. Perfect characters are the last thing you want in your writing. They should be interesting with good qualaties and bad ones, strengths and weaknesses! Characters you can relate to, people that you can become intrigued with! Plus bella is a horrible roll model for the girls reading this series. She has no self esteem and is completely dependent on her boyfriend. Then there is the fact that the vampires......sparkle. VAMPIRES SHOULD NOT SPARKLE!!!!!!! if u want a series to get into, i recomend THESE!: Harry potter(best books ever) Percy jackson The hunger games The kane chronicles Maximum ride Series of unfortunate events

Possibly the most profound disgrace to the English language ever written, this unfortunate excuse of a romance novel deserves respect only in the fact that, despite it's unfortunate existance, is miraculously still on book store shelves. The writing is mediocre at best and suicide-worthy at worst, the characters are flat and uninteresting, and the sequels are just as bad. How S. Meyer has found a way to expand ten pages worth of plotline into a four book saga is, frankly, beyond me. Don't be fooled by it's popularity, Twilight is not worth your time.
