With his porcelain skin, golden eyes, mesmerizing voice, and supernatural gifts, Edward is both irresistible and impenetrable. Up until now, he has managed to keep his true identity hidden, but Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret...

Beautifully rendered, this first installment of Twilight: The Graphic Novel is a must-have for any collector's library.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The Twilight Saga continues as the world's most beloved teen vampire story arrives in yet another package: the graphic novel. The story has remained the same: girl meets vampire, girl falls in love with vampire, vampire loves her back and almost gets her killed. Meyers's trilogy has captured by storm the anguished hearts of teens and romance readers—not to mention the jealous attention of the rest of the publishing industry. With each book in the saga, Meyers has built a devoted audience with an insatiable appetite for her series. Yen Press is clearly capitalizing on that audience with this graphic novel adaptation. The hardcover presentation and price-point signal that the book is intended as a collector's item and, at its best, another way to relive the Twilight experience. Unfortunately, this first half of the two-volume adaptation of Meyers's first book brings nothing new to the table. While Young Kim's paneling isn't terrible, her pacing is off, and the book reads unevenly. The dialogue is stilted and the characters come across as annoying rather than expressing longing. Twilight: The Graphic Novel reads like a first draft where all the pieces are there, but have yet to meld to one another and actually fit. There are certain angles and physical poses that Kim has not yet mastered, and they stand out starkly in this book. Nevertheless, retailers will be hard-pressed to keep copies of this book on their shelves. (Mar.)
From The Critics
The artist Young Kim breathes new life into the vampire series. In collaboration with Meyer, Kim combines delicate artistry and graphic elements to retell the story. The use of light and dark combined with splashes of color bring nuance to the graphic retelling of the novel. The layout reads with ease and enjoyment. For readers who are familiar with the Twilight story, this first volume concludes in the middle of Meyer's first novel. However, readers are likely to see more collaboration between the two because of their relationship. Meyers explains that "Young has done an incredible job transforming the words that I have written into beautiful images. The characters and settings are very close to what I was imagining while writing the series." Hence, this graphic novel provides insight into the author's vision as it is brought to life in this riveting new medium. Reviewer: Alison E. West

Meet the Author

Stephenie Meyer
Stephenie Meyer
After the publication of Twilight, her sensational debut novel, Publishers Weekly chose Stephenie Meyer as one of the "most promising new authors of 2005" -- a prediction that proves true with each subsequent book.

Biography

According to Stephenie Meyer, the idea for her sensational debut novel, Twilight, came to her in a vividly detailed dream in 2003. Over the course of three months, writing at night when her children were in bed, the young Mormon mother of three developed that dream into the spellbinding story of 17-year-old Bella Swan, who moves from Phoenix, Arizona, to the tiny town of Forks, Washington, and falls in love with a beautiful, mysterious vampire named Edward Cullen. After feverish writing, painstaking editing, and a brief but frustrating round of queries, submissions, and rejections, Meyer finally connected with an editor at Little, Brown who fell in love with the manuscript and signed her to a three-book deal.

Twilight debuted in October, 2005. An immediate sensation, it appeared on several year-end best books lists and earned its author a rabid cult following among teenage girls. Since then, Meyer has continued Bella and Edward's story in bestselling sequels that have proved equally successful. Young readers cannot get enough of these riveting novels -- a captivating blend of vampires, romance, and suspense -- and parents rest easy knowing the books do not contain the graphic language and sexually provocative material that pervades some YA series.

Whether or not the Twilight Saga proves to have "Harry Potter legs" remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Meyer continues writing. She forayed into adult fiction with 2008's The Host, a chilling science fiction tale about the end of humanity, told from the perspective of an alien invader. And she makes it clear the door is open for further installments in her vampire romance. Clearly, this talented author has many more stories to tell.

Good To Know

Here are some fun facts from Stephenie's "unofficial" biography on her website:
"The unusual spelling of my name was a gift from my father, Stephen ( + ie = me ). Though I have had my name spelled wrong on pretty much everything my entire life long, I must admit that it makes it easier to google myself now."

" I met my husband, Pancho (his real name is Christiaan, but no one calls him that—it's not a long story, but it is a stupid one, so I'll skip it), when I was four, but we were never anywhere close to being childhood sweethearts. In fact, though we saw each other at least weekly through church activities, I can't recall a single instance when we so much as greeted each other with a friendly wave, let alone exchanged actual words.

This may have been for the best, because when we did eventually get around to exchanging words, sixteen years after our first meeting, it only took nine months from the first "hello" to the wedding."

" I am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that has a huge influence on who I am and my perspective on the world, and therefore what I write (though I have been asked more than once, 'What's a nice Mormon girl like you doing writing about vampires?')."

"I can't write without music, and my biggest muse is the [British rock] band Muse."

A transcript of the dream that inspired Twilight appears in the book as Chapter 13, "Confessions."

Amazingly people think they are critics of a unread novel

Wow..it is amazing so many people can write a review on abook they have never read...what is wrong with you people jealous that some author made a hit out of books and made movies too. This is not the first movie ever made from a book although it seems to be what most people think.
Your comments are seriously childish and without character.
This is not a blog to talk about underwear or how much you are sick of the books and movies. keep it to your self or go on the twightlight site and blog. This is a site who serious readers want feedback. And if you've only seen the movies and not read the books you have no idea what dyou are talking about, stay off the books site!

    Twilgiht Series

If you're a fan of the series, it's a must buy. Even if you only read it once, and put it on a shelf, but personally, I think it's a book that you'll read just like the reg book, just because it has pictures, making you look at it over and over again. I love manga and graphic novels, and I love the Twilight Series, so this book just put 2 of my loves in 1.

    more from this reviewer

You can't write a good review of a product that isn't available.

I believe that title says most of it. Whereas I to am going to purchase this first installment of the graphic novels, (mostly because the characters in this will be attractive, non-stoners who don't look like bunnies) I at least would have waited before writing a review, just in case my favorite scene was condensed, or the emotion wasn't conveyed properly. However, this little 'review' of mine had to be written, if only in response to the other 'reviews' that made no sense. Would you recommend, at a restaurant, the spaghetti you haven't eaten before? Some of you, maybe, since you're into foretelling future awesomeness, but for the rest of us, we'd like to hear it from someone who's actually eaten the spaghetti. Sigh. Spaghetti is good.

    Midnight Sun

I would love it if Stephen Meyers finished Midnighgt Sun. I have all the books and I think that it would be great to have Midnight Sun right next to all the other books. A lot of the fans would also love to finish reading Midnight Sun. We are very dedicated fans and I espcially would love to have a copy of Midnight Sun. I believe that it's a great idea that you have started that and now to finish it would be wonderful! Think of how much all your dedicated fans would love it if you finished the book!!!

    A Beautiful Adaptation

I was a bit wary when I picked up this graphic novel as I am a fan of comics like Witchblade and Watchmen, and the cover looked much more anime-ish. However, upon flipping through the pages, I was delighted to see that Twilight had not been rendered into one of those stereo-typical anime/manga styles that are unfortunately all to prevalent in the comics section of bookstores. While certain elements of the manga style are present, the art overall is still notably much more western. I also like the selective use of color to emphasize certain aspects of the story. In terms of the story adaption, the key parts are all there, and the text is almost verbatim from the original novel. Overall, this is a good addition to the bookshelf of any Twilight fan.

    Midnight Sun/Twilight Series

I can not wait for this book to be sent...Stephenie Meyer please complete Midnight Sun. I did read what you posted on your website...I'm just really interested about reading more about Edward's thoughts...I think that your reasoning behind writing Midnight Sun and letting Edward have his voice is awesome. I hope one day that I see Midnight Sun in a Book Store.
I will but it immediately with any hesitation. I would like to have a copy of Midnight Sun along with all the Twilight Series books. I have built a library with all the Twilight Books along with the all the Tie in movie books by Mark Vaz. I have them all. I'm looking forward to Eclipse coming out. I have seen New Moon three times.

    Very well done

If you loved the Twilight books before it became "Twilight Mania", then this is definitely for you. This book did what the movie was supposed to do. It gripped your emotions, captured your senses and finally put a face to the characters that we all know and love. Looking forward to Volume 2!

    Excellent

If you read the books before the first movie was released and were disappointed with the directors exclusion of integral scenes from the book then this graphic novel is the thing for you. I love how it nearly exactly mirrors the written book and the artwork is visually stunning. I have to say I am a HUGE Twilight fan in addition to being an anime and graphic novel fan. I would LOVE to see this released as an anime.

    Wow, really?

Really? Seriously? A graphic novel of Twilight? They are seriously desperate for money... The books, and movies, and tee's are okay, but then with the Bella and Edward action figures. And now a graphic novel?? How stupid. The "Twilight-Mania" merch is getting a little to crazy. PLAN OUT STUPID!! Who would buy this??

Well, I'm exited about this too, but when is Midnight Sun going to be finished?!?!?!? First they said that they wouldn't write it, then she said they would finish after Breaking Dawn, WHEN WILL IT BE FINISHED?!?!?!?! I want Midnight Sun finished before they make Twilight into a comic book!!!

Yes!! The Kiss was included <3

I ordered my copy in Feb. when i found out only 300,000 copies were going to be sold, and i finally got my copy about an hour ago. I finished the whole thing a minute ago, LOVED it, but i was totally surprised when it was only half of the actual books contents, i was literally sucked into the art that i didn't notice i was done until the last page ended with: To be continued in Volume Two. Oh well i'll be on the pre-order list for that one too. The art was AMAZING, the story was sort of choppy and might not be understood by someone who hasn't read the book, but other than that the graphic novel is a must read along with the other books in the series.

    Hm..

So I'm a bit confused.. Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped about this. I love the series and I love graphic novels so it's perfect. But, how is everyone writing reviews on something that hasn't come out yet? I feel like I'm missing something. Oh and by the way, I totally agree that the people writing reviews should keep it about the books and not underwear and such but if you're going to say stuff about them, you should probably at least run the spell check on your own review. Because, like you said, this is for serious readers. Don't be offended, just thought you should know. =o)

    Midnight Sun you say?

To everyone who has been asking about Midnight Sun, she is not going to release a final copy. If you go to her website she explains why and gives a link to the rough draft. I know that this may be terribly devastating, but we shall live. Although it may never be final, I find the rough copy to be quite good. You should all go check it out.

    Twilight

I actually really liked reading the graphic novel. It wasn't to anime-ish and it really stuck to the Twilight storyline. Young Kim did a really good job of portraying all the characters. Even if Bella looked just as beautiful and perfect as Edward. :)
