Meet the Author

**Bound by custom or unique by choice.** There's something about the written word which is pure magic. Possibly it's the fact there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, and they can create something so beautiful or so empowering that they're able to change our lives. How important is it that we break suit and stretch our minds? I like to think of myself as 'unique'. My stories aren't for everyone, and sometimes I may push what you believe to be 'normal'. Normal is subjective. I prefer to be known as a person who's never been 'bound by custom' but is 'unique by choice'. I hope you do read and enjoy my stories. Until next time Mxx

This book was amazingly heartfelt and thought provoking. As a domestic violence survivor myself it brought back a lot of bad memories but also made me think about how strong a person must be to walk away and never look back. Everyone needs to read this book, it flows seamlessly and the writer has a gift of pulling you in, it's GREAT

** spoiler alert ** Warning!! Spoilers!! I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review So, honestly, I wasn't expecting for my request to read this book to be accepted. Once it was, I kind of regretted sending the request because I really didn't want to read it. I was actually going to apologize to the publishers and back out. But for some reason, I did read it and I'm glad I did. This is not a happy book. It's sad and dark and thought-provoking but it completely draws you in. It follows Lily's life from the age of 12 to about 25. She's abused by everyone she loves and can never find a way out. But, eventually, she makes some new friends who want to help her and she attempts to live a pain-free life on her own. Now, Ugly was great, but there were also A TON of things wrong with it. The very beginning of the book is a scene from when Lily was 12. In my opinion, it was completely unnecessary and made no impact on the story whatsoever. Also, why are all these schools offering her full scholarships? She's only got a 3.9 GPA and has done no other activities. That seems very unlikely. And, Lily obviously realizes that the relationships within Trent's family are not normal. Lots of other reviewers-that I've seen- have all said she doesn't know any better, BUT SHE SHOULD!! Her thoughts about it show that she knows it's not right! And even if she didn't know, they teach about "healthy relationships" and abuse is school. AND that tell you ways to get help. I also don't get why she went back to Trent and agreed to marry him. She was so ready to be strong. Why would it be SO easy for her to go back to him? To marry him? And then you get the diary entries, which was an incredibly weird thing to stick in the middle of the book. When you think you're almost done with the story and nothing else could happen, you're only 40% of the way through. Then you think again " it's gotta be almost over" but it's only 52% through! And lastly, Trent was OBSESSED with Lily. I find it hard to believe that he would just let her go like he did and not bother her at all until she went to court. He probably would've gone after her. Especially through the divorce. Basically, Ugly is a very heavy, strange read. I'd give it 3/5 stars but I wouldn't just casually recommend it to someone. It's definitely thought-provoking but it drags on way to long and I would've enjoyed it much more if it all happened within 3 years. More reviews at : http://mybookscrapbook.weebly.com

*** Gifted via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*** I will admit this has been a difficult book to get into, I do know that some women will gravitate towards what they know, so I pushed on and tried not to get too frustrated at Lilys decisions. If I were dead, I wouldn't be able to see. If I were dead, I wouldn't be able to feel. If I were dead, he'd never raise his hand to me again. If I were dead, his words wouldn't cut as deep as they do. If I were dead, I'd be beautiful and I wouldn't be so...ugly. I'm not dead...but I wish I was. This is a strong statement, and I am sure there are many women who feel like this in the world, which is a shame because - UGLY is someone elses point of view... it took me years to realise this. I do have an idea of how peoples harsh words can define a person, as a child/teenager I was bullied and called 'Ugly' 'Stick' and 'Frigid' - I changed from the outgoing child to a shy introverted girl who had few friends and was glad she had her horse to love. It took the love of my life years to convince me that I was beautiful, but anyway, this experience meant that I could understand how Lily could not pull herself out of this cycle easily. This book is not an easy read, I found the first half to be very difficult, as I posted part way through the book, but as Lily finally finds the courage to think for herself, to take that first TERRIFYING step to removing herself from the abuse you begin to cheer for each scary step she makes. I did find on some paragraphs that Max started to show signs of being dominant, but thankfully he is the HEA that Lily deserved... BUT I am glad that she did not jump from the frying pan into the fire so to speak, and Max had to wait until Lily was ready for more than friendship. its a good standalone story of one girls struggle to escape the life of abuse that unfortunately too many children in the world are suffering.

This book is fantastic. It is so emotional and terrifying to know that some people actually grow up like this. I spent the first half up the book angry, sad, pissed, and feeling so many other emotions. Then the book took a turn and I could have been happier. This book is emotionally draining and you will want to have some tissues around if you are a crier and maybe even if you aren’t a crier. I felt for the main character Lily. So goes through so much during the book. I couldn’t imagine how Margaret must have felt while writing this book. I was emotionally spent at the end of the book even though it ended on a good note. The main characters Lily has been told basically her whole life that she is ugly, stupid, good for nothing, and other similar things. It has been like this for as long as she can remember and only got worse once her mother died. Lily learned how to blend in and not be noticed by anyone. She went to school every day and got good grades. Then one day she meets a boy named Trent. He seems nice at first and is giving her the attention that she can’t ever remember getting before. But Trent isn’t the nice guy he seems to be. Lily learns to late and because of how she has always been treated begins to think her father was right all along. Well Lily finally realize she is smart, beautiful, and deserves the world or will she continue to believe these horrible people in her life? I could go on and on about this book but I would probably give too much away. I was so mad at Margaret for the first half of this book. How could she write such a beautiful character like Lily but put her through so much HELL? I wanted to jump into the book and beat up Trent so many times for so many different reasons. Lily’s best friend Shayne is crazy and great. Really all the characters where great and had so much personality even if it was one I didn’t like. I was happy that in the end Lily did what she did and found her self-worth. Again I can’t even put into words how much this book moved me and how much it made me feel. Fantastic job Margaret. I have read some of the books Margaret has written and look forward to reading more in the future. ***Reviewing for Steamy book momma book blog***

This book was ok. It was so sad at times. I love the idea of the book, however the story was a little choppy. The plot would skip a whole year between chapters.

Enjoyed the fact that it was different from the regular romance books and stories. There is a warning in this book and I was affraid to start it because of that but I wanted to read it so tested the waters and it didn't cross my lines. A beautiful story told with emotion and gentleness. Dramatic and exciting You know something is coming and about to happen but no idea when. Great story and very exciting but I found it dragging at times. Yet at the end her healing is so fast after all she went through. Something happens at the beginning that leaves a huge question and that isn't answered until near the end. It bothered me... The letter she receives towards the end is confusing and I didn't understand how he can have those emotions after everything that happened. There is so much time spent getting to know Trent's family yet we hear nothing about them later on....is she ok? What happened to his mom? I found there was a lot of mising info and at about %65 it seemed rushed.

Ms. McHeyzer went from being a new-to-me Author to a favorite This book is the most real book that I have read in a bit and Oh My Gosh, the emotions within this book!! There is no doubt that it is a story that will stay with me for a very long time.. and the messages within, here is hoping that this book gets through to many who need to see them.. There are so many people out there lost and/or misdirected, that I wish that I could hand this book to and help them absorb it. This story is not for the faint-hearted, it is raw, it will crush your heart to the point that it will take your breath away.. but it is one that needs to be told. 5 is not enough stars!! I was gifted this ebook in exchange for my honest review. Opinions in this review are my own.
