What happens when you find the right one at the wrong time?
Cara Medlen has a serious case of animal attraction. And it's not because of all the foster dogs she's rescued. She's got it bad for her incredibly sexy neighbor. Her one rule: Don't get attached. It's served her well with the dogs she's given to good homes and the children she's nannied. Yet the temptation of Matt's sexy smile might just convince her that some rules are made to be broken.

Matt Dumont doesn't need his skills as a private investigator to detect disaster on the horizon. Cara is everything he thought he'd never find-gorgeous, funny, and caring. But there's no way he can start a relationship just as he's about to move to another state. Talk about bad timing. As their attraction sizzles too hot to deny, they'll have to make a decision: forget the consequences and let loose, or forget each other and let go...

Dog lovers rejoice! The stars of Lacey’s cute series opener set in Dogwood, N.C., have four legs instead of two, and their happy ending is guaranteed. Part-time photographer Cara Medlen provides the Triangle Boxer Rescue’s most reliable foster home, but her neighbors worry that the untrained dogs are dangerous. Private detective Matt Dumont starts out suspicious of Cara as well, but soon enough he joins her in the rescuing business, and makes sure that Cara doesn’t get herself into precarious situations while attempting to free abused dogs. Cara’s sweetness and determination attract Matt, but he’s planning to move to Massachusetts to be closer to family, so he’s certain that they won’t be able to form a lasting connection. But when the two are forced together by a well-timed snowstorm in a sleepy mountain town, all good intentions go out the window. Lacey’s debut entertains, and readers will look forward to meeting Cara’s dog-loving friends in two planned sequels. (Nov.)

Ever since her teenage bout with leukemia, Cara Medlen has avoided long-term commitments. Marriage, children, and permanent pets are out (until she reaches the ten-year mark), but fostering rescue boxer dogs is in. If only she didn't have such grouchy neighbors, whose complaints are about to force her to sell her condo. Sexy, law-abiding PI Matt Dumont lives next door and thinks she's harboring fighting pit bulls. But Matt is moving from North Carolina to Boston and has issues with some of Cara's less-than-legal methods of rescuing dogs. Though he's as hot as they come, there's never going to be anything between them. Of course; never. VERDICT Gentle humor is a perfect foil for the more serious issues of health, trust, and commitment in this boxer-blessed story. Animal lovers will adore it and rejoice that it's the first of a three-book series. Debut author Lacey lives in North Carolina.

Dragged most of the way. Too many plot devices. Didn't like the writing style, too choppy.

Cara had previously been sick, but is anxiously awaiting a ten year cancer-free-and-clear zone. She's been keeping herself from any long-lasting attachments just to be sure no one gets hurt. She wouldn't mind getting to know her sexy neighbor, Matt, better but she knows she's not ready for that yet. Matt has other ideas though and the more he gets to know Cara, the more he wants to spend time with her. She seems to keep finding herself in trouble and Matt always appears out of nowhere to rescue her…and her dogs. He wants to keep being there for her if she'll let him. Unleashed is adorably sweet and one of the most romantic stories I've read in a while! Matt is the perfect hero, showing Cara tender loving care and some light admonishment for her behavior at times too. Ms. Lacey's plot is sensitive to both humans and animals, making the story interesting and thought provoking, all while engaging us with the hero and heroine's charming romance. Everything wasn't all peaches and cream and real issues came into play with the characters. That made the story very realistic, but enticing at the same time. Unleashed is well-written and Ms. Lacey shows us she's quite a talented author. I anxiously await her next romantic story in this wonderful series! 5 Stars!

This is the next book you need in your life! Not only is it as charming and sweet as the cover implies, but the hero is also deliciously HOT (and not in the I CAN'T STAY AWAY FROM YOU BECAUSE I MAY OR MAY NOT BE UNSTABLE way). Yet, there are plenty of elements of danger to keep you turning the pages. From neglected dogs to trespassing to Matt's PI job. But the elements of the story never overshadow the hero and heroine's lives. They are real, they are grounded, and Matt's cool confidence makes for one of the sexiest heroes I've ever read. It's a small-town contemporary that will tug your heartstrings until you unravel, then make you want to charge out into the world and adopt a dog...and maybe a man to go with it

New author I heard about through Lori Wilde.  I loved this book.  It has dogs in the books which is always a hit with me. Little spice with her characters and she told a great story. Took the time to build her characters including the dogs personalities. Can't wait for the next book.
