I really enjoyed this story although it was too short.  Sometime

I really enjoyed this story although it was too short.  Sometimes it felt like it was jumping around and leaving things out but otherwise, very well written.

Oh my GOD! This is truly one of the best books I've read in quit

Oh my GOD! This is truly one of the best books I've read in quite some time. And it's just a novella. Less than 100 pages. From the very beginning the author lures you in with phrases like "The sun shone brightly, winking upon the icy ground and making the field look like a sea of glittering gems. Breathtaking." (breathtaking in itself, no?) and "Her auburn locks cascaded over her shoulders in a waterfall of silk." (seriously beautiful writing) and that's just the first 2 chapters! By the time you get to the end of this novella you will be cursing yourself for not buying the next book in the series before you finished this one so that you don't have to stop reading. I don't want to give anything away so I'll just say, talk about your cliffhangers! I'm usually not into a book that leaves me hanging. I like a nice tidy package with things all wrapped up by the end of the story but I can't help but love the way this novella ended. The author leaves you begging for more. I absolutely cannot wait to start the next book. Brava Ashley Stoyanoff, this was a fantastic book and I'm going to make sure I tell everyone I know so that they will read it too. Fantastic!

Stoyanoff picks up this little novella with the same ease and fl

Stoyanoff picks up this little novella with the same ease and flare that she writes The Soul’s Mark series. Her descriptions are fluid and vivid creating an unforgettable picture in your mind’s eye. One cannot help but be drawn in to this remarkable world, enjoying each and every minute of it. As enjoyable and light as this story was, it is also one of the most in depth novellas that I’ve ever read. By taking her characters directly from the series, Stoyanoff allows herself greater leeway for story development. She also does so with tact and class. She doesn’t ignore character development, but rather assumes that the reader knows the basics about each individual from the series as a whole, thus allowing her to tell her story.

The characters are consistently the same individuals that we’ve come to love through Stoyanoff’s work. Their emotions, actions, and reactions are true to form. As a reader, you also see how they have evolved into the characters that we see in the modern day and where they were a century ago. I also really appreciated the sneak peek into the creation and development of Willowberg into the town that Mitchell runs today.

Although this novella would be a quick, entertaining read as a standalone story, it works best as part of The Soul’s Mark series. It complements the storyline and to a large extent, explains events that preceded yet directly affect the characters and their actions in the series.

This story shows us how Eric Carter came to be part of Mitchell

This story shows us how Eric Carter came to be part of Mitchell Lang’s vampire family. It shows us that vampires are not always bad guys as we are made to believe but lets us see Mitchell for the good guy that he is by turning Eric into a vampire rather than have him die from injuries.

The author's gift for descriptions is amazing. I could clearly picture where Eric lived and the determination he had in trying to find Megan even though it was difficult for him.

Eric is a fun character in The Soul’s Mark series and it was great to find out how he came to be part of the family.

Even though this novella could be read alone, I suggest that it be read with the other books in this series.

This brief novella tells the take of how Mitchell came to have E

This brief novella tells the take of how Mitchell came to have Eric Carter as his son, as well as Eric's initial experience with his soul mate before he knew what she was. This explanation will be if help if read prior to the series but is by no means necessary for you to get full enjoyment out of the series if read after the fact. It certainly helps explain some of the things Eric does when Amelia (Millie) first arrives in town and why he acts as he does toward her. However it still does leave some mystery and unanswered questions, which may be dealt with in the fourth, and likely final, of the Soul's Mark books (not counting this novella one of those four).
