Manifiesto del Tercer paisaje se ha convertido en uno de los textos clave para entender el paisajismo contemporáneo. Gilles Clément vuelca en él un programa para el Tercer paisaje, aquel que aparece en las cunetas de las carreteras, en los lugares residuales de las ciudades, en los espacios de transición entre la ciudad y el campo que no han sido controlados por la acción deliberada del hombre. Es en esos lugares donde aflora un sistema biológico verdaderamente libre. Tras el éxito de la primera edición en español, esta segunda edición ampliada incorpora una serie de ejemplos de la evolución y puesta en práctica del Tercer paisaje.

The third landscape is considered to be what appears in the gutters of the roads, in the residual places of the cities, in the spaces of transition between the city and the countryside that have not been controlled by the deliberate action.
