Philip Pullman is an acclaimed English author most famous for the His Dark Materials books including The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. Pullman's writing combines fantasy, adventure and intricate world–building with deep philosophical exploration. His young adult modern fantasy classic, The Golden Compass, known in the UK as Northern Lights, won the 1996 Carnegie Medal and was made into a popular film in 2007. Pullman has also written The Book of Dust series, the Sally Lockhart series, the fictional biography of Jesus, The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ as well as several standalone novels. Sir Philip Nicholas Outram Pullman was knighted in the 2019 New Year Honors for his services in literature.
