Tim Powers (b. 1952) is an American science fiction and fantasy author. Many of his fantasy novels are centered around historical events with fantastical elements added. He is a two-time winner of the World Fantasy Award for Last Call and Declare. His 1988 book On Stranger Tides was the inspiration for both the video game Monkey Island and the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film.
