About the Author

Eugene Silberstein, M.S., CMHE, BEAP, entered the HVACR industry in 1980. He is currently the National Programs Director at HVAC Excellence, a division of the ESCO Group, in Mount Prospect, IL. Previously, he served as the Director of Technical Education and Standards at the ESCO Institute, also part of the ESCO Group, after retiring from his tenured professorship position at Suffolk County Community College in 2015. Mr. Silberstein earned his bachelor’s degree from The City College of New York and his Master of Science in Energy and Environmental Systems from Stony Brook University.

Mr. Silberstein brings thirty years of experience teaching heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration at several secondary, postsecondary, and vocational institutions. While teaching, he was selected as one of the top three HVACR instructors in the country for the 2005, 2006, and 2007 academic school years by the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration (ACHR) News. Mr. Silberstein earned his Certified Master HVACR Educator (CMHE) credential from HVAC Excellence and the ESCO Group in 2010, as well as ASHRAE’s BEAP credential, which classifies him as a Building Energy Assessment Professional. Mr. Silberstein continues to serve as a subject matter expert as an author and coauthor of numerous HVACR textbooks and workbooks.

Mr. Silberstein was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his numerous contributions to the HVACR industry at the 2024 HVAC Tactical Awards ceremony held in Chicago, IL.
