"This plodding three-hour epic concerns the brutal battles and feuds of rival warring factions of 13th-century Bohemians. Far removed from the laws of the authorities and the church, the pagans fight deep in the forest and away from any semblance of medieval civilization. The rival warlords spend their time murdering, robbing, raping and pillaging. In a brutal act of revenge, a man is nailed to his front door and watches in horror as his daughter is abducted to prevent her from entering a convent. Packs of wolves symbolically circle the savages, but the lupine prowlers are much less of a threat than the human animals in this violent feature highlighted by lust, nudity and animal savagery among humans."
