Overview

In 2011, SuperBird combined Chuck Mangione's Journey to a Rainbow and Eyes of the Veiled Temptress, two of the fluegelhornist's '80s sets for Columbia. Three years later, Beat Goes On bundled three other recordings released during the same era on the same label: Love Notes (1982), Disguise (1984), and Save Tonight for Me (1986). All three offer poor to middling material from Mangione. They rarely reach the same level of vibrant energy heard on his more successful late-'70s and early-'80s albums for the A&M label. ~ Andy Kellman
