CHAPTER 1

The butterscotch colored cat sat in the sun in front of the window of the big family room. He loved the warmth of the sun on his fur. He loved the family he lived with, but most of all, he loved food — hard, crunchy, kitty food.

The children in the family loved the big butterscotch colored cat. They called him Mr. Kitty.

Michael, the oldest boy, loved to play with Mr. Kitty. He would build houses made of blocks, spin Mr. Kitty in 3 or 4 circles and see if the big cat could find his way in and out of the block houses. (Mr. Kitty seemed to love being dizzy!)

Ben, the boy with the baseball cap, loved to carry and stretch Mr. Kitty. Mr. Kitty loved Ben, so he let himself be squeezed and carried for 5 minutes — no longer! Then, Mr. Kitty would run and hide underneath the couch that no person could fit under. (Mr. Kitty felt longer after those squeezes!)

Dani, the girl with the blonde curly hair, liked to dress Mr. Kitty in hats (HATS!). She loved putting him in her doll carriage to give him rides. Mr. Kitty didn't know why, but he seemed to like the rides. Dani would wear rollerblades and drive him around in circles in the cul-de-sac where the family lived. Mr. Kitty loved these adventures. He never jumped out of the carriage because he was a happy cat.

One adventure that didn't make Mr. Kitty happy was the arrival of a new cat in the family. This cat was named Mozart. He was white, Persian and friendly. He always looked like he was smiling.
