I read the first two books in the series and immediately bought this one because I enjoyed the first two so much. I did not like this third one much at all. The writing style was good and the author's world build was very well done. She does Steampunk very well and I very much enjoy her inventions and the thought she puts into how things work together and even more how magic works opposed to science and how they work together in some cases. I didn't like any of the characters in the book. Not even the ones returning from the first two. Most seemed petulant and spoiled and more determined to have their way no matter what than have a civilized conversation. I had no sympathy for the two main characters because they were utter morons determined to be martyrs to their own particular causes. I get that they were young and making poor choices but one of the pair should have had some sort of common sense. Since this is a nook book and I enjoyed the first two so much, I'll keep this one, but if it was a paper copy I would be getting rid of it never intending to read it again.
I was a big fan of M K Hobson's THE NATIVE STAR and THE HIDDEN GODDESS, so I came into THE WARLOCK'S CURSE with really high expectation and, oh God, were they met. Everything about this book pulled me in. I will give that it had a slow start (specially if you weren't familiar with the other two books that comprise this series), but it didn't bother me because half the time I was just /trying to figure out what the hell was going on/. It was so much fun--the characters, the plot, the wonderful dialogue. What I loved most, though, was how dark this book turned out to be. Just the themes it touched and the others it alluded to. I can't wait for the next book. Like, literally WHERE IS IT. A definite recommend :)
