Description: This is a very tiny pocket drug guide for nurses by a very reputable author. It is similar to larger handbooks and provides much of the same drug information for more than 3,500 medications.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a quick, ready reference for nurses or nursing students when there is a need to look up a medication. The major difference from other drug handbooks is the size of the book — it fits easily in a pocket.
Audience: The title notes that the book is for nurses, but student nurses also may use it, as well as really any other healthcare providers. Each monograph includes nursing care.
Features: The best aspect of this book is that it does indeed fit into a pocket and can be carried at all times. It is clear and concise and includes all the information nurses need in order to administer medications to patients. The index in the back helps to find the drug.
Assessment: If a healthcare provider is unable to carry a smartphone, then this pocket handbook could be useful. The quality of the book is good, but it is a softcover that easily can become worn. It is so small it may be misplaced, and, for nurses with older eyes, it may be difficult to read the tiny print.
