About the Author

Peter L. Myers, PhD, is coordinates the Addictions Counselor Training Program at Essex County College and is an adjunct faculty member at New York City College of Technology, CUNY. Dr. Myers is the author of numerous articles in interdisciplinary areas concerning addiction and recovery, sect and cult groups, and social movements. He is the co-author of the text Becoming an Addictions Counselor: A Comprehensive Text. Dr. Myers is Past President of the International Coalition for Addiction Studies Education, and has taught anthropology, addictions, and human services at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He also served on the National Steering Committee on Addiction Counseling Standards and was recently appointed to the Addiction Professionals Certification Board of New Jersey (ICRC/AODA).
