About the Author

Tim Flach is a world-renowned animal photographer acclaimed for his striking, portrait-style work that explores the complex relationship between humans and the animal kingdom. Eschewing traditional wildlife photography, his images—often set against minimal backdrops—evoke empathy and inspire action for conservation. Flach's notable monographs include Dogs (2010), Birds (2021), and Feline (2025), continuing his exploration of both domestic and wild species. His work seeks to bring animals into direct view to underscore their individual character and the urgent need for their protection.

Richard O. Prum is the author of The Evolution of Beauty (2017), named one of the Best Books of the Year by the New York Times and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. A professor of ornithology at Yale University and MacArthur Fellow, he lives in New Haven, Connecticut.
