Overview

Dragovic-Soso describes the development of Serbian dissidence from its beginnings in Yugoslavian intellectual circles of the 1950s through its consolidation in the early 1980s around the defense of civil and human rights. Drawing upon primary source research as well as interviews with participants, the author also considers how it came to be that this democratic movement ultimately turned towards an extreme form of nationalism under Milosevic.
