About the Author

"
Dr. Mya Speller Cullins is a prominent, well-respected, and highly requested mental health and substance abuse expert. With empathy, wisdom, and expertise, she has been helping the underserved, neglected, and overlooked for over twenty years. She has taken great pride in her education, having received her bachelor’s and master’s from North Carolina A&T and Capella Universities, and her PhD. as a Doctor of Philosophy in Advanced Studies & Human Behavior. She is a woman not just of words, but also of action. Her desire is for families, communities, and individuals to lead thriving and enriching lives. To help in the process, she has created numerous programs to make that desire a reality. These programs include addiction treatment, mental health counseling, and job training, among other essential areas.

After the heartbreaking loss of her son Nygil M. Cullins in 2022, Dr. Mya turned her lens inward in order to teach others how to turn tragedy into triumph and advocate that mental health, race, and other factors do not warrant a death sentence. She continues to fight onward, taking the conversations surrounding mental health across the United States and around the globe, all the while keeping her son’s memory alive and bettering the lives of others in the process.
