About the Author

Maya is an eighth grader at Bettendorf Middle School where she is an honor student and runs on the Cross Country team. Maya's favorite subjects are social studies, language arts and sciences. In 2012, Maya received the President's Award for Educational Excellence in recognition of Outstanding Academic Excellence.

In the winter months, Maya can be found at Snowstar skiing as often as possible. In warmer weather, she prefers to be riding her horse, Chester, in western shows. She also loves to take her St. Bernard, Ozzie, on walks. Maya has received her Bronze Award from the Girl Scouts and has attended girl scout summer camp for the past five years, as well as Camp Genesis and Camp Kesem.

Maya is the daughter of Shari and Conrad Baker. Her grandparents are Barbara and Merrill Greenberger, Skokie, Illinois and Al and (the late) Jeanine Baker, Schaumberg, Illinois. She has an older brother Aaron and a younger sister Sasha.
