Overview

John Carter, Civil War veteran, goes mining in Arizona. When discovered by Indians, he is mysteriously transported to Mars, called "Barsoom" by its residents. Carter soon falls in among the Tharks, a nomadic tribe of the planet's warlike, four-armed, green inhabitants. Thanks to his strength and combat abilities he rises in position and earns the respect of Tars Tarkas, one of the chiefs. The Tharks then capture Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, a member of the hominid red Martian race. Will Carter be able to save the Princess...?
