A Ribbon, a Rock and a Garrotte: Part One

Fresh from self-imposed exile in South Africa, a flagrant chancer, George Twyford, slips back into a war-torn and rationed London, with a big chunk of money and even bigger ideas.

Most of Kentish Town welcome his return but his estranged wife and father-in-law feel differently. The first despises his desertion, the second is the brutish Police sergeant who instigated it!

Striving to evade both, he identifies with the plight of lifelong chums and feels a strong urge to improve it for them but, always in a hurry, perceives that his favourite option must be the black market and with gusto begins to change the fortunes of those close to him. More chances are taken, adventures abound and lifestyles swiftly perk-up but one risk too many upsets a vicious housing baron and violent conflict ensues, harmfully affecting most of the neighbourhood of St. Pancras. Becoming rapidly unpopular, but undeterred, he explores the West End of London for fresh, felonious activities.

Whilst imbibing in raucous Soho Bars and flashing around exclusive Nightclubs George becomes erotically entwined with the beautiful Radna and, through her, renews a deadly acquaintance with ex-Sergeant Major Grogan. He introduces George to some very dangerous people and proposes one deal that would set him up for life. Game and gullible, Twyford finds himself plunged into the world of espionage and is soon facing the death penalty for Treason against the Realm.
