If you're a fan of the Alien franchise, you must own this. Lebbon does an admirable job of capturing the fear and emotion from the original Alien movies, and there's no shortage of page turning action.

I still remember seeing the movie back in 1979 at the local mall and been a fan ever since. I enjoyed the book and was happy how the book managed to explain the tie in from the original film. Looking forward to book 2 and 3.

Alien has been my favorite Sci-Fi universe since I was younger and saw the first film. I was more than ecstatic when I saw that there was new content being released. Amazing read, could use a bit more tension but nonetheless, if you even remotely like Alien, then this book is a must read. I absolutely cannot wait for the next two books in this series.

If you like the Alien movies, you will enjoy this series. This is an original story that takes place after the first Alien movie and the book Alien: The Official Movie Novelization and prior to the second movie/book Aliens. I would suggest reading the Alien movie novelization prior to reading this book. Action packed and good character development. Quite a bit of foul language throughout. Violence on almost every page and some adult situation. Would not recommend this one for young or immature children. Some areas did seem a bit repetitive of things that happend in the first book Alien but overall an interesting read and a good tie in to the other books. There are 3 in this series and I plan to read them all.

I have been a fan of the Alien movies since the first release. I was excited to read a novel based on the movies. Read this quickly as it is like the script of an Alien movie. Can't wait to continue the series. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

I love to read and one of my favorite genres is science fiction. I could not stop reading this book; I had to know what happens next! Ripley is such a great character and I'm glad she's in this series. This book had great action and surprises. I'm excited for the next two books. Definitely worth reading if you're a fan of xenomorphs and life in space.

If You're a Fan, You're a Fan! This is just like watching the movie!! Written as a short story in-between Alien and Aliens, Out of the Shadows gave Ripley insight that pushed towards a richer understanding for both Aliens and Prometheus. I listened to it once, then again- excited with each incident, thanks to actors like Rutger Haur, Corey Johnson, Matthew Lewis and the almost duplicate voice talent of Laurel Lefkow, as Ripley. She was on point, sounding just like Sigourney Weaver! The story begins at the end with Ripley's famous lines: "This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off." She placed herself in stasis, only to wake up with the crew of the DSMO Marion. Somehow Ripley's shuttle, the Narcissus, didn't head towards earth to possibly meet up with the company, as we all knew. She was forced deeper into space, towards a particular area... a mining colony. (Oh boy!) When she's awakened, she's already in neck deep in feculence. The miners have been attacked and their escape shuttles are on a collision course with their mother ship, the Marion! *For the full audio drama review: http://bit.ly/29b2S8b **Audiodrama available via Audible.com, from my personal library, for an honest review.

TITLE: Alien: Out of the Shadows AUTHOR: Tim Lebbon GENRE: Science Fiction/Horror PAGES: 352 Alien. For fans of the movie series, the very title brings up feelings of dread and horror. From the way that the alien “seed” is implanted in the host, to the way the alien is born and then kills without thought, the alien has become a horror icon. There have been several books and comic books about the alien, all of which are good in their own right. Then, I found ALIEN: OUT OF THE SHADOWS. Oh great, another Alien book. Hasn’t this been done to death? What more is there to offer? What can be done that has not been done already? Apparently plenty…especially in the hands of Tim Lebbon. I am familiar with Mr. Lebbon’s work, and to be honest, that is the only reason I got the book. That turned out to be an excellent call on my part! I do not want to tell you about the book, that would spoil it and I really want you to make the discovery on your own. I will say this, Tim Lebbon has nailed it on all counts. The fear that creeps up your spine during the movie? Check. The jolts of when horror when the alien attacks? You betcha. A story that takes you for one hell of a roller coaster ride? YES! YES! YES! I give this book five out of five stars and call it a must read!

While I love all the books set in the "Alien" Universe, and IS supposed to be the first in official canon of new books. It is essentially just the script to "Aliens" cut/pasted into a different planet with new people. I really enjoyed the quick read but there is really NO effort made to make this new in any sense of the word. I bought all three and I am really hoping that the other two have some ACTUAL effort put into them. I would have rated this "Below Average" but I do love the Alien.

I loved this book. It was a slightly different story after Ripley escaped the first time. It's fast passed and exciting. Highly recommended if you're an ALIEN fan.

So when does the movie come out? Bottom line up front: I really enjoyed this book. The opening alone… I just could not put it down and stop reading. I had to read what happens next; I had to get to the next page and the following page… and the one after. I had to see how it ended! This book was well done. You can see elements of the original film with a small bit of Prometheus and then a touch of Aliens. I will not say anymore because I would hate to spoil it for anyone. Read it and you will see what I am so excited about! I cannot wait for the next two books in the series to hit the shelves.

Barnes and Noble sold me this book online. However it's not readable online. Unless I'm missing something there is no warning when a book is not readable online. And of course there are no refunds for NOOK books. So they have my money! But I can't read my book until some unknown point in the future.

Yep, I'd say you're missing something. How about the fact that it's called a "Nook Book"? Thats pretty much a dead give away. Give them MORE of your money, buy a Nook HD, (my personal recommendation), and that "unknown point in the future" will be here before you know it!
