About the Author

JAMES O'TOOLE is a Research Professor in the Center for Effective Organizations at the University of Southern California, USA, where he has been Chair of Management, Executive Director of the Leadership Institute, and edited the magazine New Management. Formerly Executive Vice President of the Aspen Institute, he served as Managing Director of the Booz Allen Hamilton Strategic Leadership Center. He has published thirteen books and over seventy articles and was the Chairman of the task force that created Work in America.

EDWARD E. LAWLER is Founder and Director of the Center for Effective Organizations and Distinguished Professor in Marshall School of Business, both at the University of Southern California, USA. He has taught at Yale and the University of Michigan. Honoured as a major contributor to theory, research and practice in the fields of human resources management, organizational development, and organizational effectiveness, he is author or co-author of over thirty-five books and more than three hundred articles. Business Week proclaimed Lawler one of the top six gurus in the field of management and Human Resource Executive called him one of HR's most influential people.
