Andrea Tese: Inheritance
Inheritance is a meticulous narrative of 74 color photographs, made between 2010 and 2012, that replicates Tese's experiences as she cleaned out her grandparents' house following their deaths. The subject-matter here is intentionally mundane—suitcases, shoes, tools, books, food, flowerpots, dishes, furniture, Christmas decorations—and at first glance the images seem to be an unsentimental inventory of these objects as well as a celebration of the two beloved individuals who owned them. Yet a closer examination reveals Tese's own consciousness in the order and arrangement of these things, proof of her role as an interpreter who evokes the past while imagining the future.
