Back at the castle, motherly Queen Anne of Brittany wants David to learn about medieval French court life. With Arnaud as his guide, David explores the castle, visiting the scriptorium, the buttery, and the bell tower-and gleefully exploring a maze of secret passageways.

Along the way, David learns about calligraphy from a monk, discovers how wine is made, engages in knightly games including jousting and archery, and encounters the castle's many pets.

As with the other books in the series, Anne of Brittany, Arnaud the Page, Columbus, and Little David brings history to life for young readers who love adventure and are curious about the world.
