Purpose: The purpose is to expand nurses' pathophysiology knowledge beyond the baccalaureate level and bridge the gap with clinical practice. This is a much-needed addition to the literature as few books are geared toward advanced practitioners.
Audience: This book is intended for nurses seeking education in advanced practice roles.
Features: The book has many unique features, including sections throughout each chapter that discuss diagnostic links and application to practice. Diagnostic links provide information on appropriate tests to be performed and how they support the identified diagnosis. The application to practice feature offers short case presentations to prompt readers to consider the data collected when diagnosing and treating. Colorful illustrations, charts, and tables supplement the information. References are current and appropriate. Items noted in the book are mirrored by the website; however, a brief summary in the preface regarding the website and its features would be helpful.
Assessment: As a newcomer to the literature on pathophysiology for advanced practice nurses, this book is well done. It is current, easy to understand, and appropriate for the advanced level of diagnosing and treating.
