Archie Cleans Up the Beach
This book is designed to be read by parents or teachers to 3 to 6 year olds. This book is the first of a series involving Enviro Archie. In the first book, we join 5-year old Archie as he visits the beach with his Mother in the small town of Weston. Archie soon gets involved in a beach clean-up and learns how dangerous litter can be to birds, fish, turtles and dolphins. Plastic pollution is a serious problem that is affecting the health of our planet. It poses a real danger to wildlife, birds and sea creatures who digest micro plastic mistaking it for food. Some birds even feed pieces of plastic to their offspring. Discarded plastic bags are now regularly found dolphins, sharks and whales. It is therefore important to teach children at a young age to be like Archie by leaving only footprints and picking up all their rubbish when they visit the beach or local park. The book is written by Tony Innes, the founder and creator of the Small GREEN Steps program for the early learning sector and illustrated by Leigh Hedstrom, a professional illustrator who lives and works on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.
