Art saves lives! Arty is a boy who has a magic sketchbook that becomes his "secret" Art World. Arty escapes to his magic sketchbook in hopes of someday saving his city from darkness with color, imagination and love. Sometimes Arty has a bad day, but this magic sketchbook always provides a positive and transformative escape from the real world.

Arty's character represents all young children that love to use visual art as a way to escape, express, and communicate how they view their world. The end of story will inspire the reader to create a more colorful world.

"Art and the Magic Sketchbook" was written and illustrated by Nick Hansen. After working many years as an educator, Hansen created the "Magic Sketchbook" as a safe place for kids to see the power of creativity. This story is designed to inspire being artsy, encourage conversations about art, and most importantly build a community of young creative minds. About the Author

The author and illustrator, Nick Hansen,
loved drawing as a little boy.
It was a secret place that allowed for personal expression.
Hansen's sketchbook became a safe place during difficult times in his childhood. As an adult, Hansen earned a BFA from the
Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD).
After many years of working as an arts educator,
and freelance artist, Hansen felt God had a bigger vision. That God-sized vision and dream is to impact the youth and community with the healing and transformative power of ART.
