As It Was...Once

As It Was...Once.

Sergeant First Class Nathaniel E. Jones returns from his second tour in Vietnam to find that he has lost touch with his two boys. His two daughters are no problem. His wife, Marylou, from an upper middle class Tennessee family is Catholic, while Nate's is hard-working Georgia farmers. And Baptist. Both have different views on child-raising and faith. This leads to a family in crisis.

In a rapidly changing South - the early 1970s - As It Was...Once portrays a time when the character of the individual still manifested itself in society. In this family saga, Charlotte Clare, the eldest of the four and the heroine, epitomizes God, Country, and Family as she struggles, after tragedy, to find where she belongs and maybe, someday... love? Here, only God can make the impossible possible.

As It Was...Once is a reminder of what once was and, for all appearances, lost. It is a tale for every adult, young and old. For those seeking a story rich with memorable characters they'll regret having to part with, this novel promises to your interest, while also revealing an ephemeral time in society when faith, family, manners, and morals still revealed the character of the individual.

About the Author

Michael Jian was born in Los Angeles to a military family. He spent his boyhood and youth in California suffering the moves of military families to other states in various stages of growing up. His father, however, was from Georgia (Thomasville), so by the time college approached, he settled in as a Southerner. He majored in Modern Languages at The Citadel, he Military College of South Carolina which, after military service, led to graduate school and a career in international business. Somewhere along the way the itch to write could no longer be ignored and the flame was ignited. A pilot light if you wish. It would be decades before the stories of his youth kept coming to the forefront of his mind and ghosts of heroes met needed a stage. Ever a surfer at heart, loving the chill temperature of the Pacific Ocean whether on a board or off, or with a line in the water for bar perch, Michael Jian is a SoCal man, whose first choice for residency is San Clemente.
