Jennifer Winston was supposed to be the Great Génefær, Last Queen of Avalon, Hero of the Halflands, stand side-by-side with the Young Prince and save the world, if prophesy was to be believed. Her great-aunt had traveled to the Halflands and become the Little Jenny of Little Jenny's Journeys. Jennifer herself could have made it to the Olympics as either an equestrian or a fencer, if only she had specialized in the one or the other. All it would take to fulfill her destiny was inheriting The King's Eye amulet and stepping through the magic mirror.
But when great-aunt Jenny died, the box with the amulet and the letter that would have explained it all got waylaid. So Jenny became a nurse and married a doctor, then when he got sick, cared for him. He died and she became an athletics coach and librarian at the Winston Academy for Girls. Finally, retired, known and loved as "Aunt Jenny" by the girls at the school, she had lots of time for reading, knitting and gardening.
And that's when, more than 45 years late, the package arrived, and the great Quest she never knew that she'd been on resumed. Destiny and adventure beckoned. There were great deeds to be done, a world to saved! So, as fate would have it, Aunt Jenny found herself, and Sasha, one of "her girls" from Winston, along with her dog and two cats, in a land of magic and danger, a world plagued by She Who Was Once a Dragon, Mother of Monsters, whose name must never be spoken.
And somehow she was supposed to fix it, defeat foes that faerie queens, wizards and legendary kings had not. Kings and Queens had died or been crippled, islands were destroyed or teetering on the brink of disaster, lands had been blighted and monsters created. But, said faerie queens, the sages and teachers, the wizards and demi-gods, never fear—the Great Génefæar, the Promised One, has arrived!
