Avian Medicine
This book is a practical, comprehensive illustrative guide to the diagnosis and management of avian disorders. It addresses issues ranging from the most basic aspects of patient management to the most sophisticated diagnostic techniques. It differs from tomes on the market because it is not organised by individual bird species; instead it teaches the general clinician how to approach all birds, thus eliminating redundancy between chapters.

The book first takes the reader through the techniques commonly used to capture and restrain different groups of birds, the basis of clinical examination, the most commonly applied medical procedures, anaesthesia, and the clinical diagnosis procedures commonly used in avian medicine. These chapters include, where appropriate, the definition and description of the subject addressed, practicalaspects related to the subject in the form of bulleted points, followed by photographs illustrating procedures. Differences between bird species will be integrated as necessary (e.g., handling a raptor versus a caged bird). Numerous tables are integrated throughout to provide quick access to information such as different anesthetic agents used in birds, dose, rates, routes, and indications/contraindications.

* Provides extensive coverage of general principles of care related to all birds, eliminating the need to repeat information for each species. * Organizes content to first present information applicable to all species (examination, diagnosis, anesthesia, and procedures) followed by chapters on diseases and conditions. * Highlights information, etiology, transmission factors, clinical signs, diagnosis, management, and prevention of all medical conditions. * Concludes with a chapter on postmortem techniques to help practitioners glean important information about the cause of disease or death and prevent problems in birds who have come into contact. * Includes valuable appendices with information on body weights, normal hematology and blood chemistry values, and incubation periods. * Features more than 700 illustrations, most in brilliant full color. * Covers a wide variety of birds-cage and wild species.
