Overview

He was trouble from the start, but I couldn't resist. [She was the best kind of trouble. The kind that was so wrong, it felt right.] I've tried and failed to stay away from him. [I've done everything in my power to make her mine and keep her.] He's almost impossible to say no to. [She never tells me yes.] We're always fighting. [When we're not fighting, we're... well... making up.] He makes me laugh so hard. [I miss her laugh the most.] I'm a liar. [She knows the truth, but won't admit it.] Sometimes, I wish I'd never met him. [I wish we could meet all over again. I'd do better.] His girlfriend knows. [The guy she's with is a fool.] I'll never love anyone like I love him. [She doesn't love me enough to choose us.] It was the wrong place. [It was the wrong time.] It should have been him. [It will always be her.] *This book contains adult situations and is recommended for adult readers.

4.5 Angsty Captivating Stars... Favorite Quotes: “I didn’t want to be a flash flame.  I wanted to be a slow burn.” “When he saw me standing inside the door, he gave the most gorgeous full-faced smile.  In my mind, Christmas trees lit, kittens played with yarn, and I was polyamorous.  Everything was right.” “My words tumbled out like apples off a poorly stocked produce shelf.” “Laughter shot out of me, erupted really.  He was so serious and trying his best to be debonair.  It was too much.  Or maybe it was one of those moments where your happiness escapes through your mouth like a bank robber sprinting for a getaway car.” “Places inside me melded back together, and I physically felt my heart beating again.” “It mattered that we had something that you couldn’t put down on paper.  Something you couldn’t choose, but was chosen by.  Something bigger than merely changing your last name.  What we had was only for us.  It was undefinable.” My Review: I am in such a state after reading this book.  I am huffing, tapping my foot, in a snit… wishing I didn’t like this book so much… there must be something wrong with me!?!  M. Mabie is a witch, she is a master wordsmith with mad skills and black magic!  She made me care about an awful girl.  A girl who has done terrible, despicable, loathsome things.  A girl who is weak, and selfish, and an idiot… a girl I wanted to pinch a time or twenty.  I wanted to despise her… I couldn’t, but I hated the dreadful things that she was doing.  M. Mabie’s writing is smart, insightful, angsty, and emotive.  She captivated me, made me care, squeezed my heart, and kept me reading when I wanted to trash my kindle.  But since I am currently in such an emotional maelstrom, I am thinking she may have pushed the roller coaster ride a few too many loops - as the last time the awful girl pulled her disappearing act – yet again – it felt tedious, and I was totally repulsed... like I said… I am in a snit.  But after I eat a gallon of ice cream, I will be diving into book 2 of the series, Sail, and I simply cannot wait, I may have to start with spoon in hand… what is wrong with me?!?

My heart is still beating over this story. DAYS later. The emotion, the angst. This book pushed me. It put my heart through the ringer. But I could not stop reading. Bait is raw. Holds nothing back. You feel everything. EVERYTHING. “...came to the conclusion that that was what love was. Never having enough of something. Always wanting more. Being greedy with your heart.” Have you read the blurb? Sounds addicting right? Well it doesn’t quite capture the story in the sense where it completely describes what you're in for. Bait is beyond addicting. It grabs you and doesn’t let go until the very last page. And even then you will still be wanting the rest. Two people meet at the right place, but the wrong time. Their attraction is wrong, but feel so right. Their love is frustrating, yet beautiful. Casey is unlike any hero I’ve ever met. Not only is he hot as hell, but he has the biggest heart. He loves like no other. With conviction, he loves with everything. His entire being. He loves a woman, that shouldn’t be his. But she owns his heart. And he owns hers. “For one night, I want to pretend like it’s me you’re promised to,” his thumb ran over my lips. “Mine to care for and adore. Say yes to me. Even if it is only for tonight. Please?” I'm not going too much into the heart of the story as I believe you as a reader needs to experience this book. But I actually think you will go beyond that. You will LIVE this book. You're immersed into a life of two people that never understood love until they met each other. They never understood love's depth. And it's power. No matter what you feel about the story and its situation, it challenges your ideas on love, trust, and life itself. Who are we judge people in love? If you've ever experienced earth shattering, can't get enough love. You will understand this love. And it's strength. If not, you will want to understand it. That’s the thing about love. It cannot be placed in a box. There is no formula for love. And Bait is the epitome of this truth. Their love is not conventional. But it’s true. It’s raw. THIS. BOOK. The love of these two people cannot be expressed by words, but you will feel it. You will watch two people fall irrevocably in love, yet your heart still breaks for them. For their love shouldn’t exist, but it does. Their love is forbidden, but love doesn’t care. Love recognizes its soul in another, and Casey knew the moment his soul met his. “...I love you so much that it ruins me. It cripples me and wrecks my sanity. But, I do love you so much that is blinds me to right and wrong.” Bait is told in dual POV and it is flawlessly and seamlessly written. I was hooked the minute I started. There is not a minute where I wanted to put this book down. And when I was forced to, all I wanted to do was get back to it. If you’re looking for a contemporary romance to push you, experience all the feels, and emotionally wreck you all at the same time, choose Bait. This is will remain as one of my most memorable reads.
