Once I jumped into this book, there was no stopping me. I finished it in one sitting on a Saturday. Barefoot by the Sea was the perfect ending to the four book series. For those familiar with the series, you will see a lot of the characters you know and love. But you will also see the majority of the book focused on the relationship between Tessa and Ian (John). The book starts out with a bang with an unforgettable scene and never lets up. Roxanne St. Claire has truly created her own unique spin on contemporary romance that has me coming back for more. She has masterfully built a world that I want to live in every time I turn on my kindle or flip the page. And while it may seem obvious, it's not just the story she tells, but how she tells it. Drawing me in with every word. I already felt like I knew Tessa from the first three books, and this book only made me love her more. Her emotional journey felt authentic to me. And Ian is a hero that everyone can love. Fiercely devoted to his children, making tough decisions that only a true hero can make. The hint of a suspense subplot only adds to the story, but doesn't ever overpower it. I also liked the setup to the next set of Barefoot books--the Barefoot Brides. Overall, this entire series is praiseworthy. I would highly recommend.

Let's start out by saying I am a HUGE fan of the Barefoot Bay series, but this book just blew everything else out of the water! I loved the first three stories in this series and wasn't sure how Tessa's story was going to go. The other books didn't give much about Tessa except for the fact that she was divorced, really wanted a baby and hated lies. The first 75 % of this book revolves around Tessa and John/Ian's story. You learn what makes them tick and why they are like they are. As they slowly start to trust each other and reveal more of their pasts you start to fall in love with each of them even more. They are two people with very painful pasts and they each just want their own version of a happy ever after. By the last 25 % of the book they both realize that the happy every after they thought they wanted wasn't actually what they really wanted. Be prepared to go through very strong emotions in the last few chapters of this book, but it was all worth it in the end. Another winner from Roxanne St. Claire! Oh, and there is a sneak peek to the next Barefoot Bay book and let's just say I will be reading it! ;)

This whole series if wonderful. Just read it. I wish this one had not ended quite so fast. I'd have loved more 'together' time at the end.

"I suppose I could just walk up to a man and ask for sperm."  With that opening line which definitely made me laugh out loud, Roxanne St. Claire begins Barefoot by the Sea, the fourth book in her Barefoot Bay series.  Time is running out for Tessa Galloway and she desperately needs a man...a tall, intelligent, blue-eyed sperm donor. Ian Browning just happens to be a tall, intelligent, blue-eyed man who desperately needs a job and a wife.  Can these two desperate souls merge their goals or will they both be destroyed by secrets?  Tessa won't give her last name and Ian can't give his real name but he is very clear about what he can give. Tessa is a woman who hates secrets more than anything, yet she has a secret she has never shared even with her closest friends. Ian/John is a man who has so many secrets, it's hard for him to remember what is real...except for the pivotal event which brought him to this present situation. How can Tessa trust a man who told her not to trust him on their first meeting?  How can she not trust a man who offers her hope with a simple heart stealing gesture? Oftentimes series claims will indicate that a book is standalone and reading the first books is not necessary to understanding the story line.  In the case of Barefoot by the Sea, this is true.  In fact, reading Barefoot by the Sea has tempted me to read the whole series.  I'm looking forward to reading the stories of the other ladies of Casa Blanca the resort on Barefoot Bay.  This is a book that will appeal to readers on many levels.  If you love a romance with suspense and mystery, there's plenty of that.  And if you enjoy a little danger, then meet Ian Browning a.k.a. John Brown who's a lot dangerous.  And if you love a man who cooks as much as I do, you will love this book.

In Barefoot by the Sea (Barefoot Bay #4) by Roxanne St Claire, Tessa Galloway hates secrets. After her messy childhood and even messier divorce, she has decided to live her life as honestly as possible. That includes being up front with everyone about her primary goal of having a baby. Tessa's life on the island resort of Casa Blanca changes forever when she meets John at the local bar. Their brief but memorable encounter comes back to haunt her when he becomes the new chef at the resort. Not only must she work closely with him as she supplies the kitchen their organic food from her farmette, but she has somehow fallen for the intense stranger with hidden secrets. Life on the run in the witness protection program has been taxing to say in the least for John Brown, formerly Ian Browning. But all he cares about is getting his twins back eventually. And time is running out. The government keeps changing their requirements and now they say John must have a wife to show a stable lifestyle. The moment he meets Tessa, he can see himself falling easily for her. However, her abhorrence of secrets causes a moral dilemma. Can John trick Tessa into a marriage of convenience to get his kids back and still live with what it would do to her life? I can honestly say Barefoot by the Sea is now my favorite of the Barefoot Bay series. Be ready to get WAY too attached to all of the characters involved and for a whirlwind of emotions. Tessa and John's story is gut-wrenchingly emotional, wrought with longing and passion but yet still manages to have a lot of fun and flirty moments. Admittedly, from John's traumatic loss to Tessa's struggle to conceive, the raw emotions just wrecked me. Tessa had me frustrated a few times with the way she treated John. Her single minded goal of having a baby didn't allow her to see what was in front of her (although I do definitely understand her plight). Plus her hypercritical view of no secrets, even though she had one of her own, further complicated things. But Tessa will do anything for the ones she loves and that one redeeming quality in itself speaks volumes to me. My heart broke in a million pieces for John and his children. I can't imagine what he had to endure over the past three years to stay safe and the hoops he has had to jump through to try to get his children back. Yes, he may have lost himself occasionally in casual one night stands and scotch, and his temper may have flared, but he did the best he could with what little he was given. The secondary characters were just as crazy and wonderful as always: Zoe, Jocelyn, Lacey and their significant others still shared in the spotlight and even Lacey's daughter Ashley has a story of her own to tell this time. The writing was perfectly on point as always and the pace of the story was flawless. I absolutely recommend reading this incredible love story! But be forewarned that you will laugh, cry, and sigh with happiness. I sure did.

If you have been following this series you know these books can be very emotional for the reader. This one definitely falls into that same description. Tessa has made no secret through the series she desperately wants a baby. She spent years trying with her ex-husband and at this point thinks it her fault she couldn't get pregnant and has moved on to getting a surrogate. Finding the perfect donor is a big problem but then the resort get a new chef, John Brown. John has some pretty big secrets. He's been hiding out for 3 years from people who would like to see him dead. He's got a set of twins he hasn't seen since they were babies and now he finds himself desperate to find a stable life and a wife so possibly he'll get them back. Getting there is not going to be easy. Tessa is leery of him but he makes falling for him easy. If only she could shake that feeling something isn't quite right. John doesn't mean to but finds himself falling for her and guilty for not being able to tell her everything about his past and who he really is. For me John kind of bugged me the first half of the book. It took me a while to warm up to him because he comes across as whiny. I think because I was more on Tessa's side and didn't want to see her hurt even though she was keeping her own secret. By the halfway point John won my affection and i was rooting for someway for it to all work out. This is a man stuck between a rock and a hard place if that's the correct saying. He wants and loves Tessa but he also wants and loves his kids. He can't see any way to have both without someone getting hurt. Tessa loves him so much that she will do anything for him and does even if it means not being with him in the end. It's a heart twisting tale of two people who are meant to be together. Breath taking ending

Tessa has one desire: she wants to be a mother. After years of infertility and a messy divorce, she is desperate to fill the void in her life with a baby. She is not looking for a man, but in walks John, er, Ian… A man with secrets, which are the one thing Tessa absolutely despises. John/Ian starts his relationship with Tessa on the basis of lies, but for a worthy reason; he doesn't plan to fall in love, but once he gets to know Tessa he can’t help himself. The only question is, will their love be able to endure all the obstacles in the way of their happily ever after? I have loved every book in the Barefoot Bay series so far and Barefoot by the Sea is no exception; I highly recommend this whole series. Every installment is unique and emotionally charged, with lots of steam and great dialogue. This is one of my favorite contemporary series; if you like Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series or Brenda Novak’s Whiskey Creek series you will love this one too!

To my delight I received an ARC of Barefoot by the Sea in order to give an honest review. No problem! As with all the other books in the Barefoot Series it was gripping and well developed...I loved it! It could certainly stand on it's own but I highly recommend starting from the beginning with Barefoot in the Sand and read your way through an incredible story that will leave you wanting more! Ms. St. Claire has built a world you can fall into and want to stay. The characters are so richly developed and this particular story of Tessa and John/Ian was so emotional it actually took me to tears. I loved John from first appearance in a bar. He was developed into a beautiful, sad, determined and believable hunk of a man. Tessa's story is rich, emotional and complex which makes her feel so real. Together they have a problematic but steamy relationship that kept me on the edge and tissues in hand! I really like the way Ms. St. Claire takes Lacey, Jocelyn, Zoe and Tessa and weaves them into each book, it makes the series what is..friends, family and love. I actually find myself missing them and wanting more! I am so excited about the next series that happens right there at Casa Blanca and ties in with all the characters I love so much! Hurry Hurry Ms. St.Claire, we want more!

Reviewed by Kim for Read Your Writes Book Reviews I will admit, I didn't want to read this book. I mean Roxanne always makes me cry. I so do not like crying while reading books, thus I was afraid. Yeah, my crying fear was justified, I cried. But what I didn’t expect was to start the book off laughing. Tessa Galloway has watched her three best friends find love and happiness and turn into baby making machines. Tessa desperately wants to have a baby of her own. But she doesn’t necessarily want the man with it. I mean she can’t just say to a guy, “Hey, smokin’-hot bad ass sex god with the long hair and deadly tattoos, can you fill ’er up with some of your potent liquid gold?” Only, she just did. John Brown aka Ian Browning. Has spent the last three years of his life in pure hell and misery. After seeing the man who murdered his wife sent to prison, Ian/John and his toddler twins, Shiloh and Sam, have been put into the UK Protected Persons Service program and separated. But time is running out on them being able to be reunited as a family. There’s no denying that John and Tessa have chemistry with one another. The only question is whether or not their chemistry is good enough to turn into true love and survive the lies they are both telling each other and the world. Barefoot by the Sea will take you on a journey of two people finding each other, just when they need someone the most. You will get to experience two people finally finding the one person they feel safe enough with to share their biggest secrets. You will laugh, cry, and realize that sometimes risking a broken heart is better than keeping it safe. My only criticism of this book is the Epilogue. While I usually like them in books, I felt here it killed the loving high I had with the book. But maybe, it was just the delivery of it. Barefoot by the Sea will leave you swept Away, much love.... I received an ARC for an honest review...It simply an amazing book...Tess is the nurturer..She wants desperately to have a child. Her family which are her close friends...Lacey, Zoe, Jocelyn...they are her support system. The book is filled with so much love..When Tessa meets John Brown is it fate that has brought them together? The laughter and tears you will experience in this book are all good and's heartbreaking but you will see something that is so beautiful. When it comes down to it...what Tessa really wants with all he heart. It's much much more. She has a spirit within her...John is just the person who is right by her side. He is the right man for her...he knows she is the right woman for him...He can trust her with his secret. She must promise to him..she can't tell anyone...They set out to fake something but really is not fake for becomes real and she feels it too. Sometimes you just have to go with it..It's hard for her and hard for him but you will love this story...It's worth all the laughter, the tears and heartwarming feelings you will feel when reading this book, trust me...When it grabs you as it did me you will feel it tug at your heart. It touched me in a way I had never felt before... Roxanne St. Claire has done it again...A winner with this one. You will be taken away to the Sea by Barefoot of course...Sweet and Happy...

I was given an ARC of this book at RWA conference, and I was thrilled to get it into my hands. I love the Barefoot Bay Series and this novel does not disappoint and was well worth the wait.  Roxanne St. Claire has been one of my all time favorite authors for years. So when I learned about the Barefoot Bay Series I couldn't wait to read them and now book four is out. Tessa and Ian (John Brown) have such a chemistry I found myself unable to put the book down. I love when i can throw myself into a book and get lost in the story for a few hours.  What I love most is the diversity of each of the books in the series. How each woman faces a different challenge in their life and how they overcome their struggles. Tessa longs to have a child and longs for the happiness her friends have found. Ian is a wounded man longing for the things he's lost and finds comfort in the gentle loving arms of Tessa. A must read with a box ok Kleenex near by!

Nothing I can write will prepare you for you this story but will try. This story will have you experiencing every emotion imaginable & some that you didn’t think you would ever experience in a book. This is the 4th of the Barefoot Bay series, Tessa Galloway’s story. Tessa despises secrets, although she has one, she longs for a family but will settle for a baby of her own. Tessa reads people very well & knows from the beginning that John is not telling her the truth; but this doesn’t keep her from responding to the chemistry the two of them share. John Brown has a secret that could get him killed. He wants his children back and will do anything to make that happen, even dupe a woman into marrying him. John transforms from an angry, smooth talking womanizer to a romantic, loving man before your eyes. Roxanne St Claire is able to capture the longing that these characters share. You will be able to identify with each character’s plight and your heart will ache for their respective situations. Be prepared not to put this down until you have it finished!

This is the fourth and final book of Roxanne St. Claire’s outstanding Barefoot Bay series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I would strongly recommend reading the first three books to get to know the characters and their backgrounds. Barefoot by the Sea is Tessa Galloway’s story. Tessa is an organic farmer at the Casa Blanca resort owned by her college friend, Lacey Armstrong Walker. The one thing she desperately wanted in her marriage but never got was a baby. After trying for ten years, her husband had an affair that resulted in a pregnancy and the marriage ended. But Tess never gave up the hope that someday she would be a mother. Gorgeous, tattooed, long-haired stranger John Brown/Ian Browning shows up at the Toasted Pelican one evening when Tessa is out with her friends Lacey, Zoe and Jocelyn. He’s looking for a one-night stand and soon has his sights set on Tessa. He puts his moves on her and when he finds out what she really wants, he can’t get away fast enough.  Needing a job, John shows up at the Casa Blanca restaurant to apply for the position of chef. To the surprise of both, Tessa is there to do the interview. Lies and secrets are two things Tess hates. And John is filled with both. But is Tess hiding something of her own?  Although their attraction is mutual, nothing about John makes sense and Tess is afraid to let him get too close. But John wants nothing more than to make Tess his wife and the sooner the better. But will his selfish motives destroy any chance at happiness with the woman he is falling in love with? I like the sub-stories that go on at the same time including Lacey’s seventeen-year-old daughter Ashley, who feels her mom doesn’t have time for her anymore with the new baby as well as trying to make the resort a first-rate wedding destination. I also like that the other characters from the previous books show up on a regular basis (although I would have liked to see more of Will, my personal favorite) to make it feel like one continuing story. I love the Barefoot Bay series and this book is no exception. It is an emotional roller coaster, to say the least. If you enjoyed the first three books, you can’t miss this one!  Another five-star winner!

This is the fourth book of the Barefoot Bay series, my favorite of all. Can be read as a stand alone but better if you have read the other books. The story of Tessa and John/Ian. Both have secrets in their pasts that they need to get through. Loved the hot romance between the two of them. Add the edge of suspense to make for a perfect read. It was great to revisit with the Tessa's friends from the previous books.

A sweet, sexy, humorous, emotional read! This is the first book in the Barefoot Bay series that I have read and I enjoyed it tremendously. It can be read as a stand-alone but characters whose stories have already been told do appear and are an integral part of the tale. This is a contemporary romance filled with enough secrets and intrigue that this reader being a lover of romantic suspense was quite enrapt with the storyline. John Brown has been drifting from country to country for three years, part of the UK Witness Protection Program, biding his time until he can reclaim his young twin children. He is a man of secrets, he has to be, it is a matter of life and death for him. As his story unfolds you come to love him and root for him. He'll do anything to get his children back even duping an unsuspecting woman into marrying him but he is pained by having to do so, he's a good man with a conscience which endeared him to this reader. What he didn't expect was to fall in love with this woman and want more than he can conceivably give her considering the circumstances he lives under. Tessa Galloway is a nurturer by profession and in personality but she has not been able to nurture that which she wants most, a baby. After years of trying with her husband their marriage ended when her husband fathered a child with another woman. The only family she has are her family of friends. She detests secrets and knows that John is hiding something but their attraction cannot be denied. This reader was a bit bothered by Tessa's preoccupation with having her own baby. In this day and age there are so many options available to a single woman who wants to be a mom that were not addressed. Once the secret of her biological family was revealed her need became more understandable. This was a sweet sexy, emotional story, the H and h were in constant turmoil but there was plenty of humor and a wonderful budding friendship that accompanied their falling in love. These two had to learn what they truly wanted in life (especially Tessa) and from each other as well as what they would give up for it. There was much character growth. I absolutely loved the ending but would have liked the epilogue to have been geared more to this couple than the overall resort and set-up for the next book. ARC supplied by the author.

Roxanne St. Claire has done it again. In this fourth book of the Barefoot Bay series she beautifully tells us the story of Tessa and um...John. This book is full of humor, angst, mystery, & love. You won't want to put it down and I have the no sleep headache to prove it! It is a wonderful story and I highly recommended it as well as the other Barefoot Bay books to everyone!

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review. First of all, I have to say I love Roxanne St. Claire. Her Bullet Catcher series introduced me to her and I've been a fan ever since. This book did not disappoint! In fact, I couldn't put it down. Finished it in an all-day marathon of reading. If you've never read Roxanne, give this one a try. It has something for everyone!

Barefoot by the Sea is the fourth in the Barefoot Bay series by one of my very favorite authors, Roxanne St. Claire. I love her romantic suspense books and when she released this series of contemporary romance, I was thrilled. She proved she is equally capable and comfortable writing an exciting, sexy contemporary romance as she is the romantic suspense genre. I think this is evident from her RITA nomination for the first in the series, Barefoot in the Sand. I’m not the only one who loves this series. This story really tugs at my heartstrings. John and Tessa, each with their own agenda and past to overcome, are well developed characters. St. Claire is a great storyteller and she has a talent for characterization. Tip: You certainly do not have to read these books in sequence, BUT, if you are like me you will probably want to. Tessa is first introduced in the first book and she is a secondary character in the next two books also. After reading the first three stories I am totally hooked. It’s not an easy thing to keep characters, well, in character, through several books. St Claire does just that--Encouraging her readers to become invested in the four friends. What I really liked: Her hero, John/Ian is a Thor-like hunk of sexiness, with a scary tattoo inked on his neck (and other places), long hair, and a motorcycle beneath his strong thighs -- he has bad boy written all over him…or does he? There is so much more to this man. I like that the hero and heroine do not declare their undying love after they have sex one time. How refreshing. How many books have you read that the characters profess their love in only a matter of a few pages after the sex scene? This was much more realistic in my mind. I love St. Claire’s writing--here are a couple examples I highlighted as I read: “She told her story slowly, as if she were in her garden and could pick only the best words.” And “She squeezed the shell so hard she thought she heard it crack. But it didn’t. The seashell was stronger than that. Only her heart was broken.”

Loved returning to Barefoot Bay for BAREFOOT BY THE SEA Roxanne St. Claire is one of my go-to authors; whatever genre she writes, she doesn't disappoint. This book is the fourth in the Barefoot Bay series, centered around Tessa Galloway, the last single girl in a group of four friends from college all working together to make the resort at Barefoot Bay a complete success. I've read all the books in this series, in order. After each book I say the same thing- THIS ONE is my favorite! You can't help but fall in love with Ian Browning. Your heart aches for him while at the same time you cheer for him to find a new happily-ever-after. Besides, who doesn't love a man who can cook the way Ian can? Tessa too, has had more than her share of heartache. Wanting her to find her HEA had me turning every page anxiously waiting to see how their impossible story would unfold. In true St. Claire fashion, the story is intricate and involved with tons of depth and emotion. To me, it is more than just a romance book. The main characters each have their own issues and agendas with what appear to be insurmountable obstacles in front of them. They are both complex and Ian often reminds me of other determined main characters in Roxanne's Romantic Suspense stories that I love so much. The supporting characters are all familiar from past books. Each person is vibrant and important to the climate of the story making each continued story in this series even more special. I was sad to see this book end, knowing Tessa was the last of the four friends to find love and happiness. I was thrilled to hear Roxanne will be writing more books tied to Barefoot Bay and cannot wait to 'vacation' there again in the near future! I was given an ARC of this book for an honest opinion. And in my honest opinion, you can't go wrong with an Barefoot Bay book in this series- OR any book my Roxanne St. Claire. I love them all.

Barefoot by the Sea is the final book of the Barefoot Bay series and the one I was waiting for. If anyone deserves a happily ever after ending it is Tessa Galloway. After a painful divorce and disappointment in being unable to conceive Tessa has given up on falling in love. Instead her focus is on having a baby through a surrogate. But her plans get an unwanted distraction the moment she meets John Brown. He's mysterious, sexy and has "bad boy" written all over him. He is trouble but she can't help fight the attraction. For John the attraction is mutual but he is keeping a painful secret that can destroy their chances of happiness. Ultimately it comes down to fighting for love and family, but who will they choose? You have to read this to find out! Roxanne St. Claire’s Barefoot Bay series is one of my favorite series. There is romance, friendship and humor that kept me coming back for more. Barefoot by the Sea was everything I expected from this author. The romance between Tessa and John was steamy and heartfelt. The ladies (Lacey, Jocelyn, Zoe and Tessa) still have a strong friendship and are supportive to one another.  And there are the hilarious moments, thanks to the always crazy Zoe, that had me laughing out loud. “Sperrrrrm.” Zoe made a disgusted face, her gaze drifting over the action in the bar. “Couldn’t man’s life force have a more inviting name? You know, like chocolate or Cabernet?”   The only problem I had was there were times the pace of the story was slow. Tessa and John have both had heartache so there was a lot of time spent on their indecision. I don’t want to spoil it but they both have hard choices to make that will impact everyone they love. Be sure to grab a tissue because there are some tear jerker moments! Barefoot by the Sea is the final book of the series but it can be read as a standalone.  But I recommend you read all the books in order to truly understand the strong bond between these ladies. Trust me you will fall in love with Barefoot Bay! I look forward to reading the spinoff series Barefoot Bay Brides and The Barefoot Billionaires.
