THRILL TO L. RON HUBBARD’S EPIC SCIENCE FICTION ADVENTURE

Battlefield Earth is a swashbuckling science fiction saga of adventure, daring and courage, when man is an endangered species and the future survival of what's left of the human race is at stake.

In the year 3000 AD, man has been savagely ruled for a thousand years by a space-plundering race of nine-foot high, gas-breathing conquerors from the planet Psychlo.

One of the Psychlos, the villainous Terl, enslaves a man-creature and forces him to mine Earth gold. Terl’s plan: to teleport the gold to Psychlo, where he can then return wealthy beyond the dreams of avarice.

The slave emerges in the form of Jonnie Goodboy Tyler, a member of the dwindling community of only 35,000 human survivors. However, Jonnie has plans other than to make Terl wealthy—namely, to free mankind from alien tyranny—and cause the ultimate destruction of the Psychlo invaders.

But is Jonnie’s fight to save humanity from these gigantic and technologically superior monsters a losing battle? Or will humans regain the Earth once more?

I loved this book! There is action adventure, romance and a deginite sense of integrity carried by the main character Johnnie. And Terl is the bad guy you love to hate! An awesome sci-fi read!

Ever wonder what happened to the space probe Voyager 1 that NASA launched in 1977 to see if there was intelligent life beyond our planet? Ever wonder what would happen if an intergalactic species found it? Battlefield Earth is an epic science fiction tale set in the year 3000 - when we, mankind, find out! I could not put this book down!!! I even got the audio book so I could continue the adventure while commuting!! What a fun commute! Read it and find out for yourself!

Battlefield Earth Audio Book – 2016 Edition First Thoughts: I’ve read the book several times and thought with the new edition, why not get the audio book? I’m not too familiar with audio books. I know a lot of them don’t have the sound quality and usually have one narrator. BE has the audio books of audio books! 44 CD’s, each about an hour each and it sounds like a Golden Age of Radio production up there with Orson Welles or the cool horror radio I used to listen to as a kid with Lights Out or Inner Sanctum. But I digress (as well as age myself). Besides the high production values and the intense mood-inducing intro music throughout the production, the cast & crew were professional and emotional in presenting their characters. As in any story I would expect throwaway characters, however in BE all the characters played some important role in the building of the story. Universe Building Hubbard builds a universe (actually 16 of them) in this galactic neighborhood. When we start, we find Psychlo has an out-of-the-way mining colony of Intergalactic Mining Co., a bunch of slovenly employees who wonder why their pay is being cut, and not a lot of thought is given to the “man animals” on the planet. We find the adventures of one security chief with delusions of grandeur and riches, Terl, and his counterpart, a “man animal” (Johnny Goodboy Tyler) who was always considered strange and asked too many questions in his village, and Johnny becomes part of Terl’s plan to take an unknown-to-the-company gold deposit near Denver and convert it to ingots and then blast the animals when the job is done. Terl returns to Psychlo a rich alien, with females and kerbango (a cross between beer and pretzels, I suspect) to last the rest of his life! So Terl trains the animals – men – from Johnny and from Scotland – using a learning device that quickly educates in the ways of mining, language and Psychlo technology to extract the gold. The fun begins when Terl gets leverage over his boss, and over the company, little knowing that Johnny has plans of his own. The story further expands from this beyond the bad Psychlos getting theirs, where Earth becomes a target for other alien races! Will Johnny be able to handle these races or will they cut up Earth so these races can pay their debts, continue their wars to satisfy the economies of their war production on their home planets, and meantime put Man in chains? Last Thoughts: I’ve read the book a few times but forgot so many details that the audio book provided with a panache and extremely professional production I was not expecting nor imagining. An amazing romp through the galaxy, finding data on Economics, Politics, the failings of governments operating on out-moded laws of subjugating populations and begin to find purpose and worth in a sea of uncertainty and the imagined power brokers of uncaring banks and military leaders. No, it’s not just a pulp tale of Tyler’s conquering the Psychlos. It’s a tale of high tension and energy in handling the world or worlds around us. Now if we could only bring Voyager home before it’s too late. But that’s for another story. Highly recommended! PS: For those lucky readers who have read the book and listened to the audio books in the past, be it known that the earlier editions were abridged as was the audio book (recorded by the wonderful voice of Roddy McDowell). Now you get the FULL story as it was originally intended!

This is a fantastic sci-fi book - classic, pure science fiction that literally has something for anyone. The characterization is great, consistent and realistic, and the message the book presents of determination and persistence against all odds is something that I think a lot of people can take to heart in their own lives. If you even remotely enjoy science fiction, you MUST read this book. (also, as a note, the newly released audiobook is amazing as well)

This is an audio you can’t just breeze through, nor would you want to. This audio covers 47 ½ hours and a has a full cast production of more than 65 actors performing 198 characters. The variations in the dialogue will hold you captive. The mannerisms and accents of the actors adds depth to this enthralling sci-fi novel. To enhance the audio even further, there are more than 150,000 sound effects heard throughout the story. It’s like a movie playing out without the picture. The story will have you pulling for Jonnie Goodboy Tyler as he encounters the Psychlos. The conflict between the aliens and the human race will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. If you’re a Star Wars and/or Star Trek fan, you’ll enjoy the sage of BATTLEFIELD EARTH. Don’t let the length of the story cause you to shy away. The story moves at a steady pace making it seems like a shorter novel. This is a fascinating look into the future that was written over 30 years ago, but is as modern as if it was written today. This is an epic sci-fi adventure you won’t soon forget. FTC Full Disclosure – A copy of this audio book was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review. The thoughts are completely my own and given honestly and freely.

This is my favorite all time story due to the amount of problems the heros have to overcome to win out and set up a new civilization for humanity. The audio book is a luxurious presentation with hollywood sound effects and music. Quite good.
