Bayou Beats and Stormy Streets: How the Beat Found Its Way Home

In the heart of New Orleans, the streets don't just walk-they dance. From the bayou to the French Quarter, music fills every corner, carried by the paws, claws, wings, and tails of NOLA the nutria and her friends: Gertie the gator, Louis the crawfish, Jolie the egret, and Percy the pelican. But when a storm named Katrina sweeps through, the rhythm of the city disappears, leaving quiet where jazz once played. Determined to bring back the beat, NOLA and her friends join forces with a shy trumpet boy to help neighbors rebuild-one song, one dance, and one heartbeat at a time. Bursting with Louisiana spirit, Bayou Beats and Stormy Streets is a rhythmic, hopeful tale of friendship, resilience, and the magic of music that always finds its way home. Perfect for ages 5-9, it's a celebration of culture, community, and the enduring rhythm of New Orleans.

About the Author

Chad J. Achord, a lifelong resident of South Louisiana, is a first-time children's book author with a deep love for his community's culture and history. His debut book, Bayou Beats and Stormy Streets: How the Beat Found Its Way Home, was inspired by his search for children's stories about New Orleans, South Louisiana, and the impact of Hurricane Katrina-stories he couldn't find. Determined to fill that gap, he created local animal characters to share the city's rich musical heritage, its struggles, and its remarkable resilience.Through this book, Chad hopes to honor the spirit of New Orleans and show young readers how music can bring healing, hope, and courage.
