About the Author

Steve Neal - Is highly respected by those with whom he has served. His distinguished 29-year law enforcement career includes many awards and commendations. He is proud of his reputation as a "cop's cop," a leader who placed the welfare of those under his command as a top priority. Well known as a man of strong values, straight talk, and true to his word, he has been a mentor and coach to many co-workers. Steve was the architect of Public Safety University. PSU was an educational partnership between the public safety community and the University of Richmond. Under his guidance as Program Director, 233 public safety officers from throughout the State of Virginia obtained Bachelor and/or Master's degrees through the PSU program. Co-founder and partner of the Leatherman and Neal public safety consulting team, Steve enjoys providing leadership training for peace officers. In addition to his consultancy, he works as a media contributor furnishing expert law enforcement analysis, consultation, and crime commentary for television broadcasters. Steve has appeared as a law enforcement authority on the nationally syndicated television show For My Man. Steve Neal is the author of the broadly praised leadership book, Toxic Boss Blues. He has written several articles that have been published online by Law Enforcement Today, Law Officer, and Police One magazines.

Jon Burkett - Seven days a week -morning, noon, and night, CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett is always on the job: covering breaking news, working his sources, and getting exclusive details and interviews. Jon enlisted in the Navy after graduating from high school in 1995. He served five years and was bitten by the journalism bug while working for the American Forces Network, the broadcast service of the U.S. military. After spending time overseas, Jon returned to the States, and was able to get a part- time job as a photojournalist at WBFF, Fox affiliate in Baltimore. He loved the news business, but didn't have a lot of down time. "I worked 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Navy, and then 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the station," Jon said. In Baltimore, Jon became a skilled photojournalist. But the Chesterfield native wanted to come home, and that happened about the time he left the service, when a job became available at CBS 6. Jon started as a photographer, shooting and editing video for newscasts and reporters. A natural storyteller, he was soon given the chance to report on his own. Two decades later, he has become the backbone of the CBS 6 newsroom. In 2009, he turned his attention towards obtaining a degree, and started taking classes online. A 'Focus to the Finish' scholarship" at the University of Phoenix helped him obtain his Bachelor's degree. Jon Burkett is the Crime Insider. He can be seen on WTVR TV-6 in Richmond, VA, and on several crime series that air on TV-One and Investigative Discovery.
