About the Author

Catherine Ann Velasco spent 22 years at newspapers in Wisconsin and Illinois covering issues important to kids and families. She won numerous state and national writing awards. During that career she created Teen Scene, a weekly newspaper page dedicated to teens' stories, photos, art, reviews and poems. She now writes grants to raise money for programs that help people get healthier. She lives with her husband in a Chicago suburb and roots for the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. Her screensaver is a picture of herself posing with co-workers with the 2016 World Series Champion Trophy and the Chicago Cubs "break the curse" goat.
