About the Author

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Pam Godwin, lives in the Midwest with her husband, their two children, and a foulmouthed parrot. When she ran away, she traveled fourteen countries across five continents, attended three universities, and married the vocalist of her favorite rock band.
Java, tobacco, and dark romance novels are her favorite indulgences, and might be considered more unhealthy than her aversion to sleeping, eating meat, and dolls with blinking eyes.

Beneath the Burn is a slow burn. It's not amped up on love but it is about holding onto hope. It's a chance encounter that changes lives. It's highly romantic but not in the flowers, unicorns, and (snicker) rainbows kind of way. The idea/thought that one hour could change your life, convince you of a purpose, and give unconditional hope. It's heartwarming even in the ever darkening world that exists in this book. Friends, brothers, and love are all words until you show the meaning behind them. Until you experience them in this book, they will be ideas. Once you read this book, you will feel those words.

Stunning, mind blowing and intense - so loved this book! I mean, there were points were my heart was beating out of my chest I was drawn into the story and what the characters were going through. I had a serious book hangover from this one and even a day later, still woozy! How do you review it, because the story doesn't reflect the emotions, and that is what makes this book come alive, you feel for the characters but you aren't disgusted by them. It would be so simple to feel sympathy for Charlee and Jay, even Nathan, but they are so human in their actions and reactions, that sometimes you want to slap them upside the head as much as you want to hug them tight There is a link from the beginning to the end that will break your heart as much as fill it with hope, and it was a wonderful touch to show the road that Charlee and Jay had travelled If you want a sweet Cinderella story, this isn't it, but if you like things dark, gritty and emotional, you will thoroughly enjoy and devour this book as I have!

Total emotional rollercoaster... Charlee's story and the horrors she went through broke my heart, but she displayed amazing strength and courage making for a great heroine. But be warned, this book is very hard to read at times, as it is very dark. But I still absolutely loved it!

This book was awesome.  I couldn't put it down.  There are so many twists and turns in the plot that continually keep you guessing what's coming next.  I will definitely be reading more of this authors books.

Loved it. Loved the story, dark and disturbing, just the way I like it. Loved the characters, great chemistry between them. Crazy emotional rollercoaster ride with some very disturbing sex mixed with some very yummy sex too.

It starts out REALLY good - good characters, very well written, engrossing. Then the writing of the reunited lead characters kind of falls apart and becomes not believable. Predictable. The part that really troubled me was that this girl who had been brutally raped both physically and emotionally seeks out carefully selected random dominants to do the same thing that her captor had done but with her setting the limits. Was this a way for the author to continue the theme? It was way to contrived. So I give this book a 2 out of 5.

This book is so amazing. If you're not into the whole Fifty Shades line, then don't read this book. It takes the whole thing to the next level. It's graphic, and violent, and explicit. But it's so raw and real and unexpected. My first read by Pam Godwin but I'll definitely be picking up more of her work.

I've never read Pam Godwin but now I know what I've been missing. Great story line and a book who has no sequel how refreshing. Can't wait to read more of her work.

An interesting read. Often too wordy. Could've been about 100 words shorter. But worth the read!

Omg. This book was amazing! I loved the story and could feel what the characters felt. This lady knows how to write a book! I was also very intrigued by the psychology. Meaning, what will make a person do what they do in tragic circumstances. Anyways, really good book. It held my attention through it all. Thank you!

** spoiler alert ** This started out really exciting and I couldn't put it down. the attraction between Charlee and Jay was swoon worthy and intense and the drama with Roy. . . . oh boy. Both Jay and Charlee have major mental issues dealing with abuse that they were subjected to. Charlee by her abductor turned stalker and villain of the story and Jay by childhood abuse. My problems with the story turning it from 5 to 4 stars: 1)Jay's problems overpowered the story and interfered with the plot. It's possible to have two powerful characters in a story both with their own problems but I don't think it was necessary and I wasn't as interested in his story. I don't like how Charlee's "love" magically made his problems go away. I think that's possible, yes, but not in the time frame it happened.  2)Roy's uber-wealth made him all powerful. I know this was a dramatic book but the things he got away with were too far fetched. I couldn't help comparing this to Consequences, only I never questioned how Anthony got away with things. In this story, Roy wasn't as cunning.  3)the way that Nathan and Tony (girl) were so nicely matched up. It felt like the author was neatly getting rid of him like Ken with Barbie. I wanted Nathan to have his own life and his own love interest but this was too cookie cutter for me.  Overall the book was very well written and I couldn't stop reading it. I'm looking out for this author's new books and am excited to read something so different.

Great story telling

Charlie & Jay both suffer from damaged psyches and scarred bodies. Even though they met briefly they recognized the suffering in each other. Jay is a rock star haunted by a childhood trauma. Charlee is a very talented tattoo artist who was a sex slave for 9 years. The way Ms. Godwin describes Jay’s music you can almost hear it. The way she describes Charlee’s tattoo work you can almost see it. I was totally blown away by this story. I laughed, I cried, I sighed. During the first 20% of the story I felt like I was reading a Kitty Thomas novel. The rest of the story reminded me of Aleatha Romig’s writing but with lots of naughty words. (Which I like) There is BDSM in this story though not like what you would find in a Kallypso Masters or Cherise Sinclair story. If you love rock stars, a strong female lead and a hero who is a really loving guy read this book. If you love to hate the bad guy this one is really worth hating. My favorite laugh out loud moment was the peanut butter scene. I’m not going to spoil it. I can see bits of the author’s own life in this story; the lead singer, the tattoos and other little things. They always say “write what you know” in order to write well and this is what Pam Godwin does.

Let me say this, this book is one of my top 25 favorite books of the year so far. There is everything in here that you could ever want to read, and even parts where you don’t want to read it yet you can’t put the book down. This is a book that you need to start reading in the morning, so that you don’t do what I did and start it at nighttime and stay up all night because you can’t put the book down. Don’t get me wrong, it was completely worth losing sleep over, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Jay’s character has an immense amount of strength that is just amazing. Even with everything that he has been through he seems to be able to pull himself together and function on a day to day basis. He shows his true colors, his compassion, when faced with horrible things that happen to the people that he cares about. And he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep them safe. Charlee’s character is just… I can’t even come up with the words for her at all. She is just amazing pure and simple. I couldn’t imagine, I wouldn’t want to imagine, going through what she went through, yet she still puts others before her. She still is willing to sacrifice herself so that others will be happy. If she was a real woman, I don’t think I would be able to talk to her, I would just stare at her. The story that unfolds is one that will leave you in tears, on the edge of your seat, wanting for more and more with each page that you turn. You won’t be able to do anything besides read the story and just hope for the outcome that you are looking for. The characters all were done amazingly well. The one’s that show love and compassion are done in a great way that you can tell they are genuine. The evil one’s are done in a way that I wouldn’t want to be on the bad side of the author because if she can write in that way, she would scare me! All in all, this is a complete must read book. It is completely worth it to you. Review provided by Crystal's Many Reviews

Since so many book bloggers were recommending this book, I decided to go ahead and read it. Beneath the Burn, by Pam Godwin, is a dark suspense story that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. It was so intense at times, I had to stop reading for a few hours, just to calm down. You will hurt for both main characters, Charlee and Jay. The story also has some humor in it with the characters bantering back and forth, which was a nice relief during the high tension. Excellent story!
