Really good book. I like that you added Lucas to make it look like Con, at first, had some competition. I like the dynamic between Con and Lord. Overall a great read.

This is an easy series. I enjoyed both books amd read them quickly. If you're looking for something to take on for a rainy day I would reccomend these. My only issue with this book was the over use of the word "ain't". I can appreciate when an author uses a specific word for affect once or twice however considering Con's wealthy foster upbringing and private school education I find it unlikely that you would find it littered through his vernacular. It tends to insinuate that he's less intellegent b/c he is a tattoo artist or simply a man covered in ink. I am well aquainted with the life style and can assure you no one I know uses the word ain't, ever.

Not having read the first book in the Beneath series, I was worried I wouldn't be able to fully enjoy this one. But with the delectable Con, who's a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, I completely gobbled up this story from the first page to the last. In Ms. March's hands she's crafted a cheer-worthy hero full of emotional baggage you can't help but love even as you blush at all his dirty talk. I just wish the heroine Vanessa had been as appealing as she's snotty, up-tight, and judgmental early on. Luckily she starts redeeming herself as the story progresses and they start digging deeper into each other's pasts and deal with their emotional baggage. Con grew up in a foster home and never felt he was good enough or a part of anything, which made for a lot of loneliness and anger. Vanessa was his idea of perfection but she always put him down until one unforgettable night. At least it was unforgettable to her and which left her running to protect her heart as she knew he could never be anything to her. Both of them went on with their lives with the other not far from their thoughts though. They're back in each other's world and as he has emotional baggage, so too does she as she's always struggled to be perfect and live up to familial expectations. Wanting to prove herself once and for all will require Con's help which will put him in very close contact with her again. The past and present continue to batter their burgeoning relationship though as outside prejudices and internal doubts keep them from their HEA. Danger from a well-hidden villain also keeps them from their HEA and the tension riding high in this engaging story. There's lots of steam too as the sexual tension is off-the-charts between Vanessa and Con. Their encounters crackle with electricity and with sexual banter that you can cut with a knife. As they grow closer they start letting their guards down as well as their emotional walls. They start to realize they're more alike than they thought which leads to some endearing and heartfelt moments. All in all this was an engaging story with the perfect blend of emotional intensity and steamy sexual encounters. The characters, both primary and secondary, are memorable and dramatically depicted to fully immerse me in their outcomes. Con was drool-worthy and my quintessential hero and I look forward to any glimpse I can get of him in the future. I'll definitely go back to read more of where he came from and plan on falling in love even more. There are other characters with stories clamoring to be told and I look forward to where Ms. March will take us next.

So far I am REALLY enjoying this series. The characters are strong and amusing. Feelings seem real. I can visualize what the author is describing. The sex seems ?....less is more. Worth reading. A couple of times each!

Con's story was as interesting as the first book. Well worth the time to read his history as it blends with Vanessa's family, and their past.

Con and Vanessa....what can I say??? Con is a bad boy that you root for even though you know his being a jerk is to hide behind not getting hurt. What he is really hiding is a heart of gold and guilt for his parents dying. He thinks Vanessa is beyond his grasp, but she has her own insecurities! Their love story will pull you in until you lose track of time and finish the book before you know it.

As you can see, I liked this one even better than the first one! We got to know Con a little bit in the first book, and he was definitely a character you probably liked for how he really stood behind Charlie, even if Charlie was meant to be with Simon. Con's romantic interest was also introduced in book one, Vanessa, but she was just someone that Simon dated to help her out with her dad and so he didn't have to deal with the women trying to land him. Con and Vanessa and Simon all went to school together of course, so Vanessa and Con had history. However while Con's parents were rich, they were his adoptive parents, so Vanessa's very well to do father always looked down on Con, as did the other people in Vanessa's circle. One time on the anniversary of her mother's death, Vanessa had gotten drunk and had a one night stand with Con. Since that time she's tried to avoid him. He was so drunk he can't remember anything about the night, and he's always wanted to know more, especially since something about her has always attracted him, even if she never seemed to think he was good enough for her. When Vanessa needs something from Con, they get wrapped up in each other's life, Vanessa trying to keep it quiet so her father won't be upset, and so that she can finally prove she should be in charge of her family's charitable foundation. Finding out the bad guy wasn't who she thought it was turned into a big twist. And the author had set up a LOT of obstacles in this. But in the end they all filled in the story perfectly. One thing that was a little irritating though, was Vanessa's refusal to eat in front of people. I understood, but didn't. There were still tears in this one, and I loved Con! Hoping one of the characters in this book turns out to be in a future book.

We met Con and Vanessa in book one, however, you can read Beneath This Ink as a standalone.  You don’t need to read book one to fully experience book 2.   Vanessa and Con spent one night together two years ago.  However, Con was so drunk he doesn’t remember any details.  This gets under his skin because he just knows that it was something special, she is something special.   Vanessa’s night with Con was life changing but since she is a blue blood through and through she feels she can’t be seen with the man from the wrong side of the tracks.  That is until she needs a deed from Con and he proposes she gives him a chance to date her.  Do to her station she agrees only if it is done in clandestinely. Maybe because I am not part of this world I didn’t quite understand the entire dynamic going on.  Con has money, a lot.  He isn’t some broke schlep who has nothing going for him.  He may be a “bad boy” with the tattoos and come from the wrong side of the tracks.  But I didn’t understand why he was such career suicide for Vanessa.  To me, this was more about her manning up and stop letting others dictate the direction of her life.   The story was solid and the mystery behind who killed Con’s parents was one I had no clue about.  Which was a definite plus?  The sexual tension between Con and Vanessa was palpable, and they explode when they finally came together.        I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook, however, I am not sure how I feel about Sebastian York trying to do accents.  He is one of my favorite narrators and that didn’t really work for me.  I am giving Beneath This Ink 4 Boundless Stars, I really enjoyed it.

This book basically is a love story between two very different people who end up falling in love against all odds. In my opinion a very generic concept, however I went into it expecting some sort of heart aching drama that would compensate for that. Sadly I never got it. It almost seems as if the author was scared to make a fight between this two characters last for too long. If they fought it would last less than two pages of the book and the big climax of this novel wasn't even well developed or explained. It felt forced and even though it tried to look as if it was drawing a wedge between the two main characters, it wasn't strong enough to hold even the slight feeling of anticipation in me as a reader. What I did like about the book is that it was fast paced and entertaining for the most part. Overall I feel that it lacked character development and juice to the issues presented to the characters. Plus the sex scenes were poorly described and just as generic as the story. If you're going into this expecting a great book then you'll be disappointed however it does fit the standards for a light, fun read. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. This is one of those books that I think really is more enjoyable in audio format largely because of the wonderful pair of narrators. This is the second book in the Beneath series but it can easily be read as a stand alone since it focuses on one pair of characters. This was a really quick and entertaining story that had a lot going for it. This book focused on Vanessa and Con. Vanessa is a rich girl working at a not for profit who needs something from Con. Con is a tattooed bad boy who is all alpha male. They have known each other since they were in school and even spent one night together a couple of years ago that Con can't remember and Vanessa can't forget. They strike a deal to spend a bit of time together before Con's land changes hands. I liked Con and Vanessa together. It was evident early on that there was more to each of these characters than the obvious and they seemed to see that in each other. There was a lot of chemistry between the pair from the start that only intensified over the course of the story. There were some pretty hot scenes and some that were more tender. There were a few things that I found problematic in the story. Vanessa's issue with eating in front of other people vanished really quickly with just a word from Con. If she had as big of an issue as it was made to be, I don't think that she would overcome it as fast as she did. I also wanted to see Vanessa speak up for herself more because she seemed to let everyone push her around. I was able to just go along with these things and enjoy the story despite these minor issues. I absolutely loved the narration of this audiobook. I have listed to two other books in this series with the same pair of narrators and that is what made me decide to purchase this audiobook. Sebastian York does such a good job at narrating a bad boy with a softer side and Andi Arndt captured Vanessa's personality perfectly. I think that the alternating points of view paired with different narrators really made the book come alive. I plan to listen to both of these narrators again soon. I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. I would definitely recommend picking up the audio in this book if at all possible because I think it adds to the overall experience. I hope to read more from this author soon.

I read the first book and it was good but it was based on the two main characters just not talking about what was going on. I can't stand when a book is based on something that could simply be cleared up with a conversation. But, since the first book was still kind of good I decided to give the second one a try insound the plot based on the exact same thing. All this stuff happens and no one tells anyone else about it. I am now done with this series.
