About the Author
Laurel Scheidt, born and raised in the central San Joaquin Valley, considers the Sierra Nevada her home away from home. She has trekked through the Sequoia and Kings Canyon region for several years and can name nearly every peak, animal, bird, plant, or wildflower in the area. She also possesses a conviction to protect the environment and a love of animals and nature. She is well studied in the fields of wildlife and forestry conservation and is a member of the Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, the Sierra Club, and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. After living most of her years in Fresno, she now resides in Modesto, California, with her husband, Scott. She works as a freelance writer and is author of Hiking Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

The hikes described aren't all easy, and the descriptions tend to be short. The map has great detail, but if you're a first-timer to Kings Canyon National Park, it's not recommended because the map breaks at a key area that can leave you disoriented.
