Beyond a Dark Door
Beyond A Dark Door ...lies the mirror to who we really are. Dare to look? Fresh from the success of last year's collection of chilling short stories, Beyond the Pale: 5 Arresting Tales of Love & Other Hauntings, multi-award winning author K. Patrick Malone returns with a collection of eerie short novels that cross the narrow threshold of the human psyche into the terrifying sideshow on the other side. Beginning with the diabolically criminal tale of The Malefactor to the spooky western bedtime story of Ol' Uncle Jesse & the Haunting Refrain (2013 New England Book Festival Winner) through the shockingly cerebral centerpiece of The Ascent of Eamon O'Dowd and culminating with the magically mechanical finale of A Toolbox for Mister Jimmy (2013 San Francisco Book Festival Winner), K. Patrick Malone once again proves that nothing is ever what it seems as we travel through the complex labyrinth of the human soul. So be brave, readers. Dare yourselves to reach out for the knob, turn it slowly and peek inside, but hold on tight as you find yourselves hypnotically drawn, step by uneasy step, into the places that lie...beyond a dark door. "There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception." -Aldous Huxley

About the Author

K. Patrick Malone was born and raised in a small town not far from the New Jersey Shore, graduating with a B.A. in Psychology from Monmouth University before obtaining a law degree from Capital University Law School. After years of practicing law, he retired from law to write spine tingling tales of the supernatural beginning with his critically acclaimed, multi award winning first novel, Inside a Haunted Mind. Malone then followed up Haunted with The Diggers' Rest, to more critical praise and awards, establishing his reputation for always delivering the unexpected. For his third novel, An Unfinished House, Malone was awarded Foreword Magazine's Book of the Year bronze medal, among many others, cementing him as the supernatural's independent heir apparent. The House at Miller's Court, Malone's fourth novel, now further reinforces his reputation as the sharpest edge in modern American horror. Taking the traditional model of the horror/ghost story, Malone imbues his stories with characterizations that bring what scares us most into the 21st century. Beginning with the quiet little town of Jennisburg, New York of Inside A Haunted Mind (2007), as seen through the eyes of its troubled protagonist, Police Chief Terry Chagford, Haunted takes on the frightening depths of his personal demons as they are faced with the real thing in a battle for his soul and those he loves. Having achieved the over the top intensity of Inside a Haunted Mind, Malone shifted to a more whimsical look at the human condition in his second novel, The Digger's Rest (2008). Inspired by his boyhood love for drive-in movies and the low budget British films of the '60s and '70s, The Digger's Rest follows the journey of three intellectual men, Jack, Mitchell and Simon, as they search for answers until they are stopped in their tracks by an ending that is nothing less than biblically (and demonically) operatic in proportion. For his third novel, An Unfinished House (2009), Malone brought the emotional levels to the boiling point when his protagonist, Michael ("Big Mike') Golden, an everyman builder, finds his life and love ripped violently away from him and the journey through himself he takes to find what he must do to replace it.
