Manning Marable is the M. Moran Weston and Black Alumni Council Professor of African American Studies at Columbia University, where he is also professor of history and public affairs. Among his many influential books is Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention (Viking 2011). Dr. Marable is a frequent commentator for such media as CNN, the History Channel, PBS, NBC’s Today Show, Tavis Smiley, BET, the Charlie Rose Show, BBC, and Al Jazeera. Russell Rickford has selected the essays for this volume and provides an engaging introduction to Marable’s writings. Assistant Professor of History at Dartmouth, he is the author of a biography of Dr. Betty Shabazz, Malcolm X’s wife, and a forthcoming book on African-American liberation schools during the black power era
