About the Author

Sandra Boynton is a popular American cartoonist, children's author, songwriter, producer, and director. Since 1974, Boynton has written and illustrated over sixty children's books and seven general audience books, including five New York Times bestsellers. More than 70 million of her books have been sold, "mostly to friends and family," she says. She has also written (with Michael Ford) and produced six albums of renegade children's music. Three of her albums have been certified Gold (over 500,000 copies sold), and Philadelphia Chickens, nominated for a Grammy, has gone Platinum (over 1 million copies sold). Boynton has also directed twelve music videos of her songs, including the award-winning "One Shoe Blues" starring B.B. King, "Alligator Stroll" starring Josh Turner, and "Tyrannosaurus Funk" (animation) sung by Samuel L. Jackson. She lives in rural New England, and her studio is in a barn with perhaps the only hippopotamus weathervane in America.

A bit less basic than some of the simpler board books. Just as fun to read. Has parts worth "shouting" aloud.

Easy to read rhyme, better for an older child, not sure why it's a board book.

I feel like all I do is review Sandra Boynton books lately. This is another new one that we bought for our daughter's birthday, and at first I didn't like it as much as some of our favorites. The text isn't as smooth, it doesn't roll off my tongue like the writing in Snuggle Puppy or Pajama Time. The first time I read it I was disappointed. After my daughter started asking for the monster book at bedtime, my feelings changed. I had to get a few good readings and learn where to embellish with sound effects and songs, and now it's a much more fun read. I still can't compare the writing to some of her other stories, it's just not as lyrical; but it is a fun story, and my girl likes it, which is good enough for me.

This is one of our favorite books. The chaos caused by the monsters (more sensitive kids might get upset, I suppose, but my nieces don't) is done in a funny way, and the fact that the BIRTHDAY MONSTER CLEANING CREW! fixes everything at the end makes it all better.Very catchy text, really funny illustrations. Perfect for a kid's first or second birthday.

My daughter received this board book for her first birthday. Reading this aloud as a family for each family member's birthday is our family tradition. Just finished our 18th year of reading

Another wonderful board book that little ones enjoy, a helpful tool to teach a love of reading early.

I got this book for my son's first birthday, and it was worth it. Even though it is a birthday book, I can not help but read it all the time. It is funny, and it has a good twist that you really do not see coming. It teaches that things are not always what they seem. I think it will be around for a very long time.

When we first started reading this book to our son on his first birthday, we became a little nervous. I think I even said, "This book is awful!" We kept reading andrealized Sandra Boynton did it again. She wrote a wonderful book w/ great rythmn. It is a fun read with a nice ending!

My son adores pretty much all of Ms. Boynton's books, but is particularly enamored with this one. And, we love it too. It makes a great birthday gift - or a good book to read anytime :-)

I gave a copy of this to both my boys on their birthdays. It's hiliarious! They love it when the monsters use his breakfast as confetti. This book makes a great gift for all ages. It's tradition to read it every year on birthdays for everyone in the family.
