Bits and Pieces
I was not sure how we would write a book as a class. What would the topic be? How would this flow? Do I have them all write off the same prompt? Do we use these fun cards I was gifted from a mentor teacher?

(For the curious, these cards are a game named The Storymatic. They offer a delightful avenue for storytelling.)

Do I have them take the first assignment of vignettes and expand them to short stories?

I didn't know how I'd get there, but I saw every benefit no matter the avenue or route we took; so why not let them choose? The mentality that drove this decision was, "I have already passed 7th grade. This is their education; they should have some control." In this book, you will see each student author's choice of their favorite piece of writing of the school year; continuously edited and revised until they felt it was ready for publication.
