The author does a great job of giving the reader a glimpse of the government's ability to track almost every aspect of our lives. As a story, though, the book lacked character development or making the reader care about the main characters. The plot was predictable. Much of the exposition was so cumbersome I skipped paragraphs at a time without missing any development of the story.

For some reason it didn't seem to flow as smooth as his other books. As usual, lots of thrills and latest techno gadgets and somehow always pulling off the mission at the end. A very good book. I never tire of Harvath and crew.

I'm beginning to wonder if Brad Thor has lost his mojo. His last few books have not been up to the standard of his early ones and this is true of Black List. The plot is very good and some of the action sequences are excellent, but in between, there is a lot of pedantic exposition. In effect some of the characters are "educating" the reader by lecturing to him. It feels very contrived. Michael Crichton made this error in one of his novels, even going so far as to include footnotes. Thank God, Thor does not go that far, but sometimes you get the feeling that you'll be tested on the material. In short, this one is worth reading, but uneven and a bit disappointing.

This was a great book, moved quite well with no drag. This is my first Brad Thor book and I look foward to reading others.

This is an impossible story - or is it? Could it happen here? Can we trust our government not to spy on us? Hmmm. A real page turner - could hardly put it down.

Thor has improved a lot since he came on the bestsellers' scene. His technical details are more useful and less "just because he can". I notice that male authors of political thrillers seem to think that all readers want to know what company built the temperature guage on the jet that blew away the bad guy, but I just want to know that the bad guy is obliterated and no longer a threat. I do like Thor's characters and story lines a lot. His main hero is truly that, a hero.

I really enjoy a good Brad Thor mystery and this one does not disappoint the reader. It gets kind of tedious and detailed but then it pops full of excitement.

Brad Thor really knows how to keep you wanting to read more and more of his books. Comparing with today's current world events it puts things in perspective and makes you realize no one is safe

I have profoundly mixed feelings about this book. On the surface, I liked the thriller plot and characters. It is an action-oriented thriller filled with death-defying cliffhangers and it had me caring about whether the hero would win the day against the many bad guys. On the negative side, I have a few complaints: First, the author has filled the book with techno-jargon, acronyms, and complicated explanations. Having spent my entire career in high technology, I admire a writer who can make the complex understandable. This author seems to revel in making the complex even more obscure and complicated. My second complaint is that the characters are not finely drawn, but are more like abstract cartoon cutout characters. I prefer writers like LeCarre and Steinauer, who are able to skillfully paint a portrait of a character's background, feelings, motivations, weaknesses, and misgivings , in other words, realistic personalities. Finally, and my biggest complaint, is the many long passages of political rhetoric which are placed into the mouths of his characters by the writer. If you want to complain about the Government, write a letter to the editor or run for political office, but don't fill your novels with long-winded speechifying! This is the second Scot Harvath thriller I have bought and read by this author, but it will be my last...I will look for my political and spy thrillers from a different author!

We listened to the book on CD while travelling to Alabama. Kept our interest and made the trip much faster. I like Brad Thor, he keeps you guessing and adding new twists to make a great story.

As usual, Scott Harvath milks some sacred cows and churns some bitter butter for America's enemies, not all of whom are foreign. As Harvath gets older, he just gets better. This one was well worth waiting for. If Brad Thor wrote a book a month, I'd buy them all.
