In this study, Ackelsberg presents a history of Mujeres Libres, intertwining interviews with participants and analysis connecting the organization with modern feminist movements. Ackelsberg teaches government and women's studies at Smith College. This is an expanded edition of a volume originally published by Indiana U. Press in 1991. Martha Ackelsberg is a Professor of Government and a member of the Women's Studies Program Committee at Smith College, where she teaches courses in political theory, urban politics, political activism, and feminist theory. She has contributed to a variety of anthologies on women's political activism in the United States.
