Broken
Alone. Abandoned. Broken. All are just a few words to describe what the new world has become. One hundred days ago a sickness took over, killing all in its path. Those who remain stay in hiding, living in fear of what lays out there. Those who do dare to step foot outside their safe house, well, may God hope they make it.

Of course he's afraid of what's out there. Of course he worries about his loved ones, but he has to protect himself, right? Well, one faithful day, the man decides he is, in fact, sick of living for himself and himself only. Maybe there are people out there he can help. Maybe his family is out there, too. As his mind constantly wanders from the good to the bad, he can't help but let his thoughts get to him.

With that, the hungover man sets out, bringing his small cat for the trip. If he hasn't seen anyone so far, well, then maybe it won't be so dangerous out there. Maybe his family found somewhere safe. Maybe there truly is a way to get through this. So, he leaves his cabin; the cat angrily clinging to him as he goes. As he packs his car, he takes one last look at the cabin, hoping he will be back. No, he's determined he will be back. And with one last glance, he's off.

Battling with himself as well as battling the world, the man does everything he can to persevere. Even when all hope is lost out there, he often has to take a step back and remind himself, "It's the little things that matter." It isn't much to take to heart, but in a world as ruined as this one is, anything helps. Let's just hope it's enough to get him through alive.

About the Author

Ever since I was a child, I've always wanted to write a book. The problem was I just didn't know what to write about. I was a boy with a typical life. Nothing much to say about it. As I grew up, different life experiences gave me the motivation to write again.

I've had a pretty productive life in the past 25 years. I've been a police officer, been in the military, had a wife, had a daughter, and above all else, have battle with my own mental health struggles. What really inspired me to write my has been my struggles. I've felt as if I could at least put my feelings on paper, that's what will make for a good story.

This is only just the beginning. I continue to learn more and more about myself as the weeks go by. Although I only have one story written so far, it really took a lot of heart and I know I have a much larger story to tell.
