Build That Wall
In 1983 Kay English visited the homeland of Menno Simons, the contemporary converted Catholic priest and father of the Mennonites and Amish who published his pacifist pamphlets. "God's kingdom is in our hearts," he wrote.
She saw through time to the elders of Muenster who threw Brother Menno's letters into the fire and build a great wall to keep sin and heresy from their great city in order to issue in the second coming of Christ.
Kay decided that Menno Simons had been a man of great vision. Why had some of his followers frozen their lives in The Olt German Way?
And what about the Amish man who asked her to marry him sixteen years earlier?

About the Author

The author was born Mennonite and visited relatives in Holmes County, Ohio during her childhood summers. She studied theology at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg Virginia, Moravian Theological Seminary, and a winter course at Oxford University.
She now lives in Quakertown, Pennsylvania where she pursues her own personal studies of the social histories of spirituality and attends the Quaker Meeting.
Along with her own four children she has fostered many others who are now adults and have brought her numerous grandchildren. She tries to teach them all that kindness, integrity, and how the search for truth come before material gain.
Her assembled children resemble the large families of her Mennonite heritage except that they maintain diverse appearances, attitudes and outlooks on life.
