Bumpy Roads: My 35 Year Journey From High School to College Graduation
Do you have a dream that life kept you from achieving?
Well, that's exactly what happened to Jayna. From the ages of 18 – 21, many roadblocks, flat tires, and potholes blocked the way on her road to college. She had to learn to overcome the deaths of loved ones, sexual assaults, and financial hardships. Detours and getting lost completely changed her destination, and she put this dream of graduating on hold. As time passed, life caused her to think that she would not get back on this road.
After four attempts to go to college, Jayna believed it just would not happen for her. She had basically given up on her dream. Instead, she focused on her career and, later, motherhood. Well, she is here to say to never give up on your dreams because life may bless you in unexpected ways and when you least expect it. Join Jayna as she recounts her incredible 35-year journey from high school to college graduation. Along the way, discover how she overcame the obstacles and traumas in her life. She hopes you will be inspired to find your path back to your dreams as well!

Jayna Burch's atypical ride to life started in high school as circumstances began forcing her to put intermittent breaks on her college journey. From one of her best friends being diagnosed with cancer to overcoming sexual assault and dealing with a roommate who jeopardized her financially, Jayna couldn't possibly have a normal life, even if she wanted to. Regardless, it later dawned on her that it could never be too late for her dreams, and 35 years later, she graduated from Collin College as a member and officer of Phi Theta Kappa.
But what did it take for her to finally get here?

This real-life, raw, emotive memoir will show you that no obstacle is too big and that, ultimately, you set your own unique journey in life.
Follow Jayna's journey from high school to college graduation. Her journey explores how broken she was and the healing that followed. Even once feeling normal, life kept getting in the way of her college dreams. Find out how she came to finally go back to college after over 30 of giving up on that dream and learn about the group that helped her finally succeed and walk across that stage in a cap and gown.

About the Author

Jayna Burch is a mom, writer, photographer, motivator, and now, college graduate. Immediately following her graduation, she took a long hard look at what she really wanted to do with her life and what she wanted her legacy to be. The answer was not to go back to pushing papers in an office but to do something to make a difference in people’s lives.
Being very creative and enthusiastic, Jayna set out to become an author and motivational speaker. Having a very protective spirit, her goal in sharing her journey is to show that past trauma’s do not have to define the rest of one’s life. She wants to inspire others to overcome their struggles in life and persevere in following their dreams, and live their best life possible. Jayna does not consider herself a victim, just someone who had a lot of bad things happen to her that she had to overcome in order to better her life and achieve her dreams. She didn’t just survive. She thrived!
Jayna is also service-oriented, innovative, and an avid community activist for children with special needs. She spent several years working with her area Clothe-A-Child and The Children’s Miracle Network, as well as the kids in her son’s special needs preschool classroom. Now she wants to focus her energy on helping other survivors live their best life ever.
