About the Author

Jasmine Walt is obsessed with books, chocolate, and sharp, pointy objects. Somehow, those three things melded together in her head and transformed into a desire to write. Usually fantastical stuff, with a healthy dose of action and romance. Her characters are a little (okay, a lot) on the snarky side, and they swear, but they mean well. Even the villains sometimes.

When Jasmine's not working on her next book, you can find her working on her dao sword form, spending time with her family, or binge-watching superhero shows on Netflix.

I am an older reader (75 years old) I enjoyed reading this book. The series has sucked me in! I've spent my time reading & liking what I read. Believe me time should not be waisted at my age! Having said that I plan on reading the next book as soon as possible.....

Burned by Magic (The Baine Chronicles #1) by Jasmine Walt is an awesome book that got me started on this wonderful series! A shifter/mage that has been hiding her mage side to keep from getting killed, it was illegal. While trying to save a couple of children from a rhino shifter gone rogue, she kills him while defending herself, now everyone knows she has magic. She is arrested and due to be executed. This is so exciting! Mages, shifters, humans, groups against other groups, mysteries, drug rings, and a handsome Head Mage that may be her only hope.

Baine Chronicles Book One When Sunaya Baines' mentor, Roanas Tillmore, is murdered she swears to hunt down the killer and make them see justice. However, the leaders of the Enforcers Guild are hiding the murders from everyone. After an incident forcing her to use her mage powers (powers that are forbidden), Naya is taken to the Chief Mage for punishment. After a few days of imprisonment, though, Naya isn't sure the mages are what she had been led to believe. If you're looking for a new kind of shifter/witch story, this is the one for you!

This was a free read in my email and I'm so glad I downloaded it, because WOW! This book had such a snarky MC (love her name: Sunaya) with an attitude that doesn't exactly allow her to play nice with the other kids. It's a certain charm, or maybe it's just the fact that her good heart shines through every other rough exterior, that makes her so entertaining. I liked the idea of this whole new world reflecting our own, and to be honest I still don't know if it's another world, or ours with different names, or a dystopian one, but whatever the case, I loved the introductions. It started off interesting enough, with a bartender wishing she wasn't where she was. I'm partial to bartenders, so it was more like love at first read for me. XD Then bad things happened for her, and it eventually lead to her arrest when Sunaya's secret was exposed. I was worried about how the story would play out. And then things changed, and suddenly it was a new scene, a new flavor from the same world. I just love when scenery changes, things can get so boring sometimes if they're stagnant, be it the setting or the plot. It was an adventure in the Palace and I liked the way I was thrown into it all while still being informed at the appropriate times. Review aside, i absolutely LOVED this book and i immediately bought the second. I'd recommend it to my friends if i had any that read XD *sighs* So it's a high recommended read from me, and I seriously think you need to check out Sanaya. Her life is crazy because SHE is, and if she's not annoying someone, she's getting into trouble. Nothing is boring with this woman, and the Chief Mage will soon learn just how true that is!

Sunaya Baine is a shape sifting bounty hunter who takes on a murder investigation while grieving a personal loss. An independent soul, she doesn't bow to anyone, let alone the powerful and attractive Chief Mage that she blames for all the problems in the city. This book is a promising start to a unique and entertaining romp through a supernatural and steampunk world. Not only is this book a funny and adventurous read, but there is an over arcing plot that makes me anticipate the future books in this series with impatience!!!

I really loved this book. It's the first I have read by this author. I have now read books 1 and 2 (I know I should have written a review as soon as I finished it, but I was so ready to read book 2) And this series is amazing. I can't wait until book 4. The heroine is smart, strong and funny... Everything I want in my heroine. She doesn't lay down and take it, she gets up fighting. A lot of things are out of her control and she makes the best of her situation. Also this book isn't just about her finding her love, I mean it's there in the background but not the major factor in these books. Also, right now you can get this book free, what's to lose by just giving it a chance!!

In a world ruled by Mages, Shifters along with humans started to be displeased with social arrangements. Their joined force may cause trouble to the ruling race and change the social establishment; hence a mysterious person called the Benefactor starts to liquidate shifters and evoke disagreements between the two subordinate races. When Sunaya's tutor becomes one of the victims, investigation of the murders becomes a personal interest for her…bringing her in lots of troublesome situations. Revealing her magical abilities seems to do her no good either. I loved the main characters a whole lot. Sunaya's rebelliousness, sharp tongue and emotion-driven actions in contrast with Iannis's calm, cold, logic-driven approach make a great blend, attracting the interest of readers. In addition, the slight mystery of Fenris's oddity makes the trio a great asset. Interesting plot, character development, stunning world establishment and fast pace make for a great reading experience. The specific situation of Sunaya as a hybrid, panther shifter with magical abilities has a great potential for twists and unexpected situations. Also, her bonds to Resistance make her being more on the edge, standing on the boundary between the two sides of opposite point of views on the situation. Long story short, I would only tell I loved the book. Great read, fast pacing, enjoyable, relaxing. I flew through hungrily in less than three days. Recommended to all paranormal fantasy fans :)
